My tranny was built 2 years ago using the IPT overhaul kit. I also bought a re-stalled stocker and everything was working good until recently. I noticed that after a few highways pulls when I would come to a complete stop the transmission would not engage. I would have to rev the motor and it eventually would engage harshly but drive fine, no slipping in any of the gears. However it only does this rarely and only after it gets hot.
So today I go outside and try to brake boost and noticed that once the rpms reach ~2800 while brake boosting it would just start slipping and free rev. The fluid level seems fine and it is red and does not smell burnt :dunno: . Could this be a bad torque converter? I used to be able to brake boost to 4k w/o any problems... Any help would be great, Thank You.

If fluid level is fine then yes it could be the converter or pump. You can check the pumps pressure by using the feedline to the tranny cooler.

i've got the same issue, but it doesn't happen until i let off the brake and hit around 4500 rpm then i start free reving. fluid is fine here as well, my tranny was rebuilt 6 months ago and before a week ago my car was only running 6psi boost so im leaning toward it being the tc, which pump is it your speaking of car cannibal?

alright, after 2 weeks of running >6psi boost and what started as a rare event has turned into every single time i go... and 50% of the time i put the car into reverse i have to rev the engine up to 2500 rpms to make it start getting power to the wheels? is this an inevitable sign the tc is bad or can that pump still be the culprit?

The pump I'm talking about can be seen on IPT's Automatic page for the DSM's. It's bolted in by 6 bolts and is responsible for applying pressure through the converter etc. Check this out.

If you're not going to check the line pressure yourself then just bring it to the shop that rebuilt it, it won't take long to get your answer.
