Help, can't identify this piece

This is a question on a 1g automatic awd transmission.

Can someone tell me what the black round plastic piece is thats held in with a snap ring that has a red wire coming out of it on the top front of the tranny is and what it does.

I have a auto tranny I want to swap in my car but the wire was ripped out and I am not sure what it does or how to get that plastic piece out to replace it. I took the snap ring off but piece wouldn't budge.

I highly doubt that because speed sensors have to have 2 wires and the only speed out put is for the speedo on the back of the tranny.

THe black piece is like 3 inchs in diameter, when you pop the hood and look down at the tranny thats the only black plastic piece on the tranny.

ok, i finaly got it popped out, theres an o-ring that was holding it in. The sensor it seelf is for telling the tcu that the band is engaged. I'm not sure what gear set the band controls but its for that gear.
