Changing the shift points?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

You could manually shift through the gears, however it is "disputed" as to how this affects the transmission. If you wish to manually shift, there is a product sold on eBay that many people on this forum have, and are happy with, called a shift box. This allows you to manually shift the auto and choose your own shift points with great shift firmness.

This is the thread reviewing the product:

You can find them on eBay from time to time. They are around 100 dollars.

Another solution is IPT's electro matic manual controller. It is a box with 4 buttons on it, 1 for each gear, so you change gears by pushing buttons on the box. This unit is about 500 dollars.

You can find them at www.ipttrans.com

Here is the unit:

You can't really change the shift points the TCU decides without any of these things. To my knowledge there is no way of actually programming the TCU differently. Hope this helped.

Would be nice if the dsmlink guys could hack our TCU's. That would be sweet to change shift points wherever you wanted them.

That would be awesome, some kind of dsmlink add on that controls the tcu... Oh man, now you got my hopes up haha.

Don't hold your breath...all the goodies go to the m/t guys. I want antilag just because it sounds bad as hell like machine gun fire, but with dsmlink it only works with a clutch. You need a MDS DIS 2 and two-step to get the same thing for an automatic thus far.

Ya, well I can't really see not having anti-lag on an automatic as a bad thing. I mean, like you said, it sounds cool, and that's it. It has no other use in automatics.

Not so. I'd rather have antilag than brake torquing. With enough whp you can break through your brakes, it can be hard on the tranny, and it's not as convenient as two step. The worst thing about brake torquing is you do it long enough and you boil your oil. A lot of hardcore auto folks use more than brake torquing to get better launches. And it's precise. Just set the rpm, no staring at a tach needle.

But as the minority of dsmers, we won't get any special love from V.3 anyway. Still looking forward to MAF control though.
