Hopefully this does not mean my tranny is toasted...When I first start my car on a cold day I've gotta wait at least 1-2min before I put in drive. If I dont let the car warm up first, when I put it in drive it makes a wine noise and doesnt like to move. Once it's warm it drives perfect, no slippage that I know of. Is this normal or is it a bigger problem?

trannys don't like cold. I believe it even says something about it in the owners manual (something about how it may be difficult to get into 1st gear on cold mornings)

And reverse.... I simply cant afford to have problems with it LOL. I put the P in poor.

Not necessarily.

When you start the car up, try putting it in neutral first. This give it a chance to pump fluid and fill the converter. These trannys don't fill the converter in park, unless you gat the updated manual valve. I sell these for $35. They are redesigned to let the fluid pump while in park.

This is the valve.

yeah that's why i asked him is he parks on an incline...i had a very similar problems with my beef up tranny even with the updated valve body.....parking on an incline plus having low fluid level made the tranny pop into 1st w/ big jump....so i'd imagine with even lower level and very viscous ATF due to the cold temp it would make the 1st gear clutches not engage right away...

I see your point. I was just pointing out the most common cause of this problem. Yes the viscosity is definitely a factor also. Thats why you should always let it warm up first before you move the car. Unless you don't like your tranny. :sneaky:

If its making a high piched whine when you put it in gear it most likely the Transmission filter in the pan that is clogged. Espically in an older car that filter has a teandecy to get forgotten about, and never get changed. If the filter is colgged then its restricting the pumps flow, and can cause slippaged. Try changing that and see what happens.
