well my friend has a 95 eagle talon N/T all stock and it has an automatic transmition and it suddenly started having problems. the problem is that it will be in drive and you can start going and it will usually switch into second but after that it wont go to third the rpm's will just keep getting higher as if you were driving a manual and not shifting the gear also sometimes if you are going alittle under 20it will pop into neutral and you must slow down for it go go back into gear the things we have tried so far are fluid level which is fine and the fluid is in good shape, we have tried cleaning all the wire harnesses connectors, we have re ajusted the shifting cable. I really dont think that the transmition is actually blown because it still shifts smoth and there is no grinding or funny noises. the check engine light also gives a code 1, 2, and 5 and we have trouble shooted all these codes with no luck and they say throtle position sensor and ecu.

thanks for all your help

If you have a TPS code, that could cause it not to shift. The ECU uses a few different things to determine shifting. One of the throttle position and the other is RPM. If it isn't reading the throttle position right it would not want to shift out of gear because the ECU would not tell it to. I would do a sweep test first. Test the voltage at the TPS. It should be about 0.5 at idle and 4.9 at WOT.

Well if you have codes then the car could have gone into "limp" mode where it only allows you to go fast enough to get home. Take it somewhere and get the codes cleared and then see how it runs. How did the TPS test come out. Did you test it and see if it was ok or just replace it.

we tested it and it had the voltage that u said we also have cleared the ecu by removing the ecu fuse for 20 seconds and also disconnecting the entire battery for a bout 20 minutes and still hasn't cleared the codes

Your car has OBD2. You have to clear them with a scan tool of sorts.

thank you for your replies
