Don't know what the deal is. I have a S20g @ 18 psi. Header, exhaust, boost controller, SAFC, 680cc Injectors, intake, all tuned perfect. Also have a IPT tranny.

:thumbdown
Ran today, First 14.8 @ 95 second, 15.0 @ 95.
60' @ 2.3 60' @ 2.4

I did some test runs on the street, launched great, Got to track did the same and felt like car started from second gear. Didn't take any logs, so I don't know about knock or any other info. None the less on the way home tried it on the street again and it launched fine.

any ideas or thoughts PLEASE,
I don't know john(transdude) tranny was acting all normal and great on the street.

starting to think, Limp Mode. Has anyone noticed this bad of a power drop off? Will pull codes tonite.

Check for the standard stuff like base timing, boost leaks, compression.

Also Id doubt its tuned "perfect" or even good if youre only trapping 98mph. My old Laser with just b16g, and intake pipe with boost at 17psi trapped 98mph.

Somethings obviously wrong somewhere.

it's just wierd that it drives great on the street, I can rape evos and such, but went to track and bam nothing,

stock rims and same tire size.

Yeah, I should be low 13's if not high 12's easy.

Now my DAMN PALM WON'T CONNECT, hasn't worked or connect in the last couple months, so now I have no clue as to what my car is doing, blind as a bat!
I think I am going to cry...

they say a 44 mag desert eagle can go through blocks....i wonder???

Hmm... Does it connect via obd-II dia mitsu II connector? If it does and you find out why it stopped connecting post it. Mines not working.. I have a check engine light thats on and my connector isn't working.

don't know why mine stopped connecting, i think it was the cable that took a crap. just pulled it apart and saw 4 wires not connected, ordered a new cable. see what happens.

otherwise check your data rate and such, from what i've experienced these things arn't totally reliable, BUT THATS JUST ME!

Would holding the E-Brake while brake boosting cause the tranny to go to limp mode?

How long were you brake boosting? More than a few seconds will cause the timing to go to zero. Seriously hurting power. What convertor are you running?

You need to get a logger and see what's going on. The car should launch better at the track than on the street. What setup do you have from IPT? 2.3 60' is a launch with NO power for AWD.
Mike

My logger wasn't working, new stuff on the way.

but, boosting for only the 3 yellow led's at the tree.

As for IPT stuff I have john's 4k stall, full rebuilt tranny kit w/shift kit. I have to get to a shop and see if there are any tranny tcu codes.

did another test launch today on an onramp, boosted to 13lbs had rpm's up and off I went, no problems. I have a task list started now...but keep the thoughts coming.

no, no, no, just when I was boosting to help hold my car in place.

been "testing" the car, and so far no flaws what so ever, going to go back and try again. see what happens...

I'm having the same exact difficulties with my 97 Talon awd. Big28, intercooler, etc, stock injectors though. Pulls like a raped ape on the street, but when brake torquing at the lights timing drops, and timing drops at each shift (need Stan's mod). Finish with mid 15's and similar 60's.

I need to figure out how to not bog the launch.

I don't trust the stock O2 sensor for tuning the top end. So I had another O2 bung welded on for future wideband tuning and I'll try it again. I'll also be investing in 550's and a Keydiver ecu.

If you figure out your issue, please post it here.

Bill

Bill, I think if you get rid of the stock covnerter, your car will be different....but still weird.
Mike

update, Launched better. But have to work on some minor tuning.

1st run: (5psi Launch)
R/T .669
60' 2.069
1/8 9.007
MPH 78.31
1/4 14.019
MPH 99.15

2nd run (17 psi Launch)
R/T .295
60' 1.857
1/8 8.923
MPH 75.98
1/4 14.122
MPH 95.66

It's better than before, Timing being pulled a little. Datalogger lost connection right at the Light  . Always next season. Only 18 psi, will go up once get bigger front and ARP studs.

-mike

I bet you are having some major timing being pulled. You were better out of the hole because of more boost, but you can clearly see how much more timing was being pulled. But, who knows if its from heatsoak or a lean condition.
Mike

I wouldn't doubt it one bit timing being pulled a lot, Heat soak wasn't a problem. Was only like 55 degrees and I pushed the car most of the way until pre-stage. Yeah, need to get some little stuff yet like an AFPR and a Wideband. next year though.

anyone know how much boost can be run off of Pump gas? Is their some sort of equation or something. I would think there would be.

-mike

Don't know whats the higest octane you got in the states, but in here at the track with 94 pump gas im running 20-24 psi on my B16G. So far my best have been :

60":1.968
1/8:8.512
1/4: [email protected]

That was at 20 PSI on 94 pump gas.

So im pretty sure you could do alot better considering your setup, whats your based timing set at? Did you see alot of knock during your run? that could be the problem (knock)

It's not a matter of how much boost on pump. It's truly your timing and AFR. If you have no way of controlling timing, don't expect too much out of pump. All the people I know that are really pushing their turbos to the limit on pump are either running Link or AEM.
Just a curious question.....what is the fascination with pump gas? I understand you go from the street to the track, but I don't get it....maybe people lke living more dangerously and closer to the motors threshold? hahahahah :D
Mike

I personally want a street trimmed car, hence the fascination.

What? Are you gonna race for pinks on who has the fastest timeslip from last week end?

j/k :D

The only thing that tuning on race gas for me is just the cost that it will incurr. Our highest is 93 octane in wi, but there are some local stations that sell 110 for about 4 bucks a gallon. I might switch next year, but not too soon, 110 gives you away very quickly by the exhaust smell. I still want to remain "unkown".

Although there is always water injection, which not many people use anymore, that I know of...

I just thought there would be some sort of mathmatical equation or limit, kinda like the sound barrer limit or something...
