Review: Full Throttle Speed Scanmaster

For people who want to know what their car is doing all the time, the scanmaster is irreplaceable. After using it for only a week, you get so used to constantly checking the status of the various parameters that if you remove it from the vehicle you almost feel like you are driving blind.

The ability to actively monitor knock, especially, makes this unit very useful. Instead of tuning the car with a logger and depending on everything to work out, you have the ability to constant keep track of the engine's safety. If anything goes wrong, you know right away. Not to mention, once the car is tuned well, this makes fine tuning very simple. Drive the car for a couple days, and you get a great feel for any small changes that should be made.

The second great aspect of the scanmaster is its ability to monitor information that doesn't come from the stock ECU, and the ability to interpret the ECU's signals for best use. The most important examples of this are the inputs for a wideband, and the ability to display boost through the EGR temp input on the ECU. With those two devices connected, you can datalog more information than ever before. There's no longer a reason to go the dyno just for wideband and boost logging, for example!

For a product that installs as easily as a datalogger (under 5 minutes), you can't beat the Scanmaster if you're serious about datalogging.

I look forward to some of the additional features that may soon be available!
