How to repaint your wheel wells to a factory like finish

How to repaint your wheel wells to a factory like finish

This is something that is very simple for most DSMers, but incase that DSMer isn't you, read on!

Tools and Parts Needed:

Lug nut wrench
Torque wrench
Floor jack
1 Jack stand
2 cans of rubberized undercoating
Paper towels
1 bucket full of warm soap water
Degreaser (I used Purple Power)

If you don't trust your painting skills, mask of the outside of the car to minimize over spray. Do this project in a very well ventilated area only.

1. The first step is to loosen your lug nuts on the first rim. Do NOT remove them, just make them crack loose so you can remove them easily with the car up in the air.

2. Now, jack up one corner of the car (the same corner where you loosened the lugs). Leave the car on the jack, but put a jack stand under the unibody in a good location as a safety measure and lower the jack so the unibody touches the jack stand.

3. Remove all of the 5 lug nuts that you loosened and put them in a safe spot where you will not lose them.

4. Pull the rim off the hub and move the rim out of the way.

5. Using the bucket of warm soapy water and paper towels, carefully wipe down the inside of the wheel well to get it nice and clean. You will use quite a few paper towels doing this. If you want to go all out, take some 1000 grit sandpaper and scuff up the wheel well a bit. I did not do this.

6. Spray your degreaser of choice in the wheel well and wipe it down once more to make sure you have everything nice and clean.

7. Pick up your rubber coating and shake it for a good minute.

8. Spray an even coat inside of the wheel well being careful to keep it off of any suspension components and exhaust. If you do get some on the body (paint) of the car, wipe it off immediately.

9. Do one more coat of undercoating if you feel its not thick enough. One should be good though.

10. Put the rim back on the hub along with the lug nuts. Get the lug nuts snug so that they will not come off when you lower the car.

11. Lower the car and torque the lug nuts to about 90ft. lbs using the torque wrench.

12. Repeat with the other 3 wheel wells.

13. Let the wheel wells dry overnight before the car is driven.

14. Sit back and check out the awesome job you did!!!
