I'm sure this is all on VFAQ.com, which you all should read, but it's hard to find some good information on our cars in general. So I decided to write this all up, consider it my "Thank you " To these forums. Mods feel free to delete since this isn't exactly a "Tech" article.
In the beginning
Diamond Star Motors, or DSM for short was a joint business venture between Mitsubishi and Chrysler. The word DSM or Diamond Star Motors comes from a combination of Mitsubishi and Chrysler. Diamond, represents Mitsubishi. Star, represents the Chrysler penta-star. Motors is obvious. :p It can be arguable that 95-99 models aren't DSM's because Diamond Star Motors was rebranded to Mitsubishi Motors in 1995. Dsm's have been around from the calendar year of 1989-1999.
There are 3 versions of a DSM;
Eagle Talon
Mitsubishi Eclipse
Plymouth Laser
The Talon and Eclipse decided to stay around, but the Laser died mid-year in 1994, which I will go over later.

Okay, we've been over the numbers, how about rarity?
1g Rarity
For starters, the rarest of all DSM's, is the Fittipaldi DSM.
Emerson Fittipaldi designed this car, and Chrysler was going to mass produce it, they decided not to. This is the only one of these cars made.
Next are the two concept DSMs which are the Plymouth Coupe, and Mitsubishi Roadster.
The Plymouth Coupe (Also known as the Plymouth X2S) is currently sitting in storage in the Normal, Illinois plant.
1g Convertable
There is an Eagle and Plymouth (Concept) convertible 1g.
Once again, so far there is only 2 made.
There are gullwing eclipses available. GSX's made for outside of the U.S. are known as GSR-4's, basically the JDM version of what we have over here.
The baseline price for these was 50,000$US
These were only sold in japan, there were only 50 made as a test-run production
The fourth rarest are the Euro-spec versions.
They are targa top DSMs.
*Note* The widebody kit is an aftermarket kit, and is not standard on Euro-Spec DSM's
There is also a Talon ES SE which is the European Non Turbo version.Contrary to what some have been saying, this was only made in Europe. It has 167 HP at the crank.
Note: This information isn't set in stone, so if anyone knows of an ES SE, let me know.
2g Rarity
I don't have much information about 2gs, because a lot of them are rare to even see running LOL
(Hey they're dsms!)
The come with factory rareness, asides from the 2g's goofy exterior color schemes, the interior can be rare as well.
Some 95-96 2gs came with BLUE interior. Leather and cloth versions of this blue were made.
Pictures of it are escaping me right now, if you have blue interior, please pm me.
For second generation DSMs, if your production date is from 01/94 to 10/94, there is a possibility you have rear vented rotors, check it out!
This is due to Mitsubishi stealing parts from their 3000gts.
A rare fact about 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse is that only 1% of all 94 eclipse's received turbos. Other years where turbos were available it's in the mid 20% range.
Thanks JW94GST.
There is my little write up that took a lot of time, let me know how you feel about it.
PM's are appreciated!
Thanks,
