"How to Make a $5 3" intake with 2G MAS"
For use w/2G MAS!
It's the same thing as buying a name brand, but CHEAPER.
My goal here was to make an intake to fit my SC61 w/o paying ridiculous amounts for name brand... and saving $$$ while making a functional piece.
Tools needed: HD garden snippers or Wire cutters... 10mm socket & ratchet... Simple Hand Saw.
Cost of Parts: 3" diameter (4-5" in length) exhaust pipe/section from Advanced Auto-$2.25... 1G N/A 4G63 OEM snorkel intake from Pick'N'Pull-$2.09... Three (3) LARGE hose clamps-laying around garage
1. Using saw start cutting at the 2.75" side of 1G OEM 4G63 intake, until the remainder of uncut intake is SAME length as 2G OEM turbo snorkel intake.
2. Use HD snippers/wire cutter to trim excess... cleans up saw job.
Now you should have what looks like a VERY LARGE 2G OEM turbo intake snorkel.
3. Now, On OEM 2G turbo snorkel, Use saw & cut 2" below where emissions vacuum lines go. The rest of small restrictive OEM turbo snorkel (down towards turbo inlet) will be trashed.
4. Use the HD snippers/wire cutter to cut five (5) 1/2" vertical slits on emission section of the OEM 2G turbo intake you kept. This will allow that hard piece of rubber intake to flex/expand as you insert 3" exhaust section.
Now you should have a 2G MAS w/recirc. & emission section that has slits, and no 2G snorkel attached (b'c it was trashed).
5. Take small 3" exhaust section and shove it into the 2G recirc./emission section where the slits were made. The pipe should slide in, but not w/o force.
6. Remember that OEM 1G N/A snorkel we cut to match length of old turbo snorkel? You'll slide the side you cut (2.75" side) onto the pipe you inserted into the rubber 2G MAS recirc./emission section.
7. Use 10mm socket & ratchet to tighten down hose clamps on 3 parts: 2 on ea. side of exhaust pipe section to tighten 2G MAS recirc./emission section and 1G 4G63 N/A snorkel, and 1 @ turbo inlet.
Congrats, you have a $4-$5 free'er flowing turbo intake to fit your BIG Turbo! You're still utilizing the 2G MAS and emissions (should you care). Those with 1G MAS... WTF are you still doing with a 1G MAS, go buy a 2G MAS!
