Lower Window Trim Strip+Paint

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

To start off if you have friends like I do that get bored while your doing some other more important work on your car, they'll sit there and peel at the cracked lower window trim but you'll still have crap on there. Sure it looks a little bit better but it still doesn't match.

So next remove the little tab at the back of the door. Now carefully push up on the back end of the trim and try and slide it upward slightly then pull towards the back of the door. BE CAREFUL! You could bent, kink, or dent it if your too rough with it. Once you got it off your left with something that should look like this

Next get out your razor blade or a very sharp knife, be careful not to cut yourself. Drag it along the bottom edge of the trim, depending on how much you have left there will be excess plastic/rubber like material, in this picture i just had a thin strip to remove to make it look clean. Removing the top excess is a little bit trickier.

Take your time and cut straight. Usually the end that is covered by the mirror is in pretty good condition, just cut it to the point where it meets up with the rubber trim around the mirror/window. Once your done cleaning up the rubber/plastic i used some 400grit just to remove any contaminants or imperfections on the metal make sure you sand in the same direction otherwise you'll see sand-scratches. Finally clean with isopropyl alcohol, or in this case i used simple green. Clean with a dry cloth. Finally tape off the top remaining rubber/plastic that seals the window. Take your time taping it off, a rough tape line will show. You'll be left with something like this.

Finally Prime it and paint it. If you'd like to see finished results PM me for a picture.
