The door on my 91 tsi sags on the drivers side. Isnt there some bolts I can loosen to re-adjust it?

There are bolts you can loosen and re-adjust the door at the hinges.

is it sagging, or is the door panel catching on the door sill? my door panel was catching on the sill and started to rip b/c the plastic clips were worn out and wouldn't hold the panel on. i just drilled a small hole through the very bottom of the panel and into the door and threw a screw in it. works great now.

but yes, you should be able to adjust the door if it's the problem.

my door is sagging what could be the problem?
I already changed out the hinges:confused::confused::confused:
Here is a pic of the door.:notgood:

Yes those are from the junk yard. This little problem makes me want to put a for sale sign on it.
I am about to give up on this dsm. suxin door man.

Might try adding washers beneath the hinge mount on the door side, bottom hinge. This might work in shimming the door upwards near the latch point. I'm in the same boat. Though the sag is slight its very annoying.

okay so heres the deal. My driver side door, must be slightly sagging. I'm having a problem with my talon where when i open the door it hits the front fender. i have to lift really hard upward on the door to get it open with little damage to the fender and ive already fixed it TWICE. now, its the third time and im really really pissed off at my car.

the first time, i just un screwed the hinges, lifted the door, and screwed them back in, and it worked. the second time, i did the same process as before, but added some locktight to the mix. Well apparently that didnt help and now im working on my next plan. coasting the car down a hill with a cliff, or deep lake at the end. or just get ready for the california summer and take the door off.. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated, my fender would appreciate it too.

well im guessing from the lack of search results, and this being the only other thread on here about this problem, i guess i have rare problem with no certain fix. screw this car... i cant even sell it, who wants to buy a car they cant even open the door to.

New hinge pins and bushings will fix things right up. Lubricate them every once in awhile, and you're very unlikely to have the same problem in the future.

Before you do anything else check the area around the hinge for metal fatigue. Get someone to gently lift the door while you look at the hinge area and see what is moving. My 90 did the same thing and new hinges did nothing to correct the problem. Mine was so bad in fact that it caught my fender one day and crushed it when I got out of the car. The way I fixed mine was to create a "C" bracket out of some steel and welded it around the hinge area. I made it big enough to weld to stronger metal but not so big that it interferes with the hinge or the adjustment. I'll take some pics later to show you how I did mine if you want me to.

Hey guys, I'm reviving a very old thread because I am having the same problem but it's hard to pinpoint a solution because all of these threads have pics that don't even show up anymore and so I don't know if these members have the same issue as me.

I'd really like some help as to knowing what needs to be done/replaced to fix my DRIVER side door sag. I don't have a pic sadly yet to show the issue but I can give a general idea of a pic I have from my passenger side. Keep in mind the passenger side is fine but I will try to explain the best I can what issue I have.

Basically, I started to notice that my door is starting to make a very slight/short squeaking sound when I open my DRIVER side door. However, when I lift UP the door when opening, it's fine. This tells me I have a door sag issue, also the gap between my DRIVER side door and fender is uneven! The gap is slightly wider on top and narrower on the bottom. There is a VERY small point where the door contacts the fender and that's what is causing that slight squeak (it's rubbing). So the lower part of the door that has the little cap on the door contacts the fender and is scraping, leaving a mark that's about 3mm or so. Again, sorry I don't have a picture but I'll use my pic of the passenger side of my car to explain. The passenger side has a perfect gap top to bottom but my DRIVER side does not.

Can anyone PLEASE give me a suggestion that will fix this? I don't wanna have to waste money on unnecessary parts! My research tells me it's probably either the fender (which I doubt) or the door hinge pins and bushings (may be the issue). What I hope is that it's not the hinges all together. I'm not home currently or else I could examine better but at least this will give me a head start. Thank you!

Because of the weight of the door, over time, the pin wallows out the hinges on a 2g, causing the door the sag. The only way I know to fix this is to replace the hinges. I had to do this on my '96 for the same reason--bought them from Mitsubishi.

If I remember correctly, late 90s Monteros use the same hinge on a lighter door, so theoretically they'd be in better condition if you want to try your luck in a junk yard.

Thank you for your response and especially the part #s! My buddy doesn't think the hinges are the issue at all and that it's the fender because the body lines on the back of the door are perfectly even with the body. So maybe he could be correct
