I bout my tallon with a aftermarket cd player allready in it. Well im upgrading it will the prioneer mp3 player. The problem is tha the person that installed the cd player before my cut off the the plug that ran from the actuall car harness. So i had to splice every thing in directly not knowing what wires did what. I got all the speakers working and my only problem is that the cd player will not turn on and save all of my seetings when i tern on the car or even to aux. My three remaning wires are are the illuminaion and the two power cords iv tried switching them and every thing else. They will pop on when the headlights are on but will not when the head lights were off. So if any one owns the an 2generation car and has the time to go out and check what colors are hooked up to what IT WOULD MAKE MY DAY. Please help oNE OTHER THING IF YOU DO CHECK MAKE SURE TO LOOK PAST THE CONVERTION HARNESS TO THE ACTUALL CAR HARNESS AND THEN TO THE WIRES THAT RUN INTO THE CD PLYER IT SELF. THANKS

So which wire do you think would cause the cd player to not turn on when i turn on the car? And do you know what the dimmer does? cause i thought sie that was the onlty black one left that it must be the old ground wire ?

Well you need a ground. That will cause the deck to not turn on. Other wires that will not cause the deck to turn on are...

1. Ignition (+12v Switched) Blue/White (RED wire on deck)
2. And the black ground wire from the deck

If you have those, then it should switch on. Make sure that you didn't pop a fuse wiring it up. You should have a fuse in the back of the deck and in the fuse box.

Even if you have power, it will not power without the ground. Ground should go to a good metal location.

Oh and the dimmer is not necessary. All that does is adjust the brightness of the deck if you adjust the brightness (dimness) of the gauge cluster lights on the dash.

I think some older CD players didn't even have a dimmer wire. Most decks will have the option if you want to use dimmer control or not.

Its not that I can not get the cd player cause I can but I have to do it manually and I loose all of my settings including pre set channels and the clock. So for some reason it is not getting power all of the time and I know all the wiring is done correctly but ill go check right now if you have any other ideas please help

Oh ok I understand. It works just find just wont maintain memory. Here...

On car - Memory (+12v Constant) Red/White or White/Green
On deck - Memory (+12v Constant) Orange (or yellow maybe)

Those two wires need to go together. If those are correct and the wires are both good (check with a voltmeter, DVOM) it should work fine. Good luck. Anything else let me know!!!! :thumb:

Went out there and found out I had some wires miss matched the (the two power cords) but now the dam thing wont even turn on. But one thing I did notice was that in order for my headlights to even come on the solid black wire coming from my cd player had to be connected to either a gray wire with a white strip or a black wire with a white strip. if you have any ideas on what I could do now. What I don’t understand is that it wont Evan turn on and the ground wire is hooked up the way it was when it was working fine and I checked the fuse and it was ok the only thing I can think of would that I blew something when I was changing the wires. Good thing I bought the extended warranty! IF I CAN NOT GET IT TO WORK

What does this mean?

black wire coming from my cd player had to be connected to either a gray wire with a white strip or a black wire with a white strip.

That is on your HEADLIGHT switch? Your headlights have nothing to do with this. That solid black wire from the cdplayer should go to metal. If it isn't take it off (off white strip wire?) and put it to where I say. I have no idea why it would goto a wire with a white strip. Where is this white strip at? Recheck your connections once more. Take everything apart and put it back to how it should be.
