when I purchase my bodykit which will be a drifter kit do I have it painted before I put it on or after I have it mounted?

Well I think it is best is you first paint the car, then put on the kit and paint it. that way you paint under the side skirts..

My friend as a 92 integra and he had it painted with the kit on and it looks like crap.

Plus if you put the kit on then paint, you wont have to worry about scratch it or messing the kit up when installing it on new paint.

what if I wanted to change to body color how would I paint inside of the engine bay area do paintshops paint inside of there with the engine in? cuz then the colors would clash everytime I open the hood

I work in a paint shop so please paint the bumper off the car, otherwise it'll look like shit. They can paint in the engine bay, but it requires unbolting and removing stuff.

To paint the engine bay they will have to pull the engne and various other components. If your original color was black or a non-clashing color to the changed color, then just mask the engine bay off.

usually the way to the best results is to fit the kit first to your car, do any mods ur gonna have to do to get it to fit perfect, the remove the kit and have it painted. the last step is bolt it back up and you shouldn't be in for any surprises that way and it will result with the best product.

Most professionals recommend painting the kit before it is installed, as you can get to all the little knooks and crannies much better. The result is a more even paint job and no rough spots in holes or vents where the paint gun couldn't fit.

dude,

First, put the kit on, drill the holes etc etc. Make sure it fits perfect.

Second, paint the bumpers when its off.

Then install everything back on. It should be relatively easy, since you already drilled the holes the first time.

As for the engine bay, I just grabbed a black spray paint can, and sprayed the whole inside. It actually turned out great. It blends in with all the black hoses, etc.

wow i could have sworn i just said that

oh shit, you did. Sorry dude. I was in a hurry when I wrote that. I just read the thread, and scrolled all the way down to reply. My bad.
I should've read all the replies before typing huh'? LOL..

Yeah but when you put the new bumpers and skirts on, they are going to look brand new, while the rest of the car paint is old, wouldnt it look messed up and be better to just repaint the whole car with new body kit?

Install it so any modification to fitment can be made. Then take it off of the car and have it painted. Then reinstall carefully.

A good body shop can make it all blend. I had my stuff painted off of the car, matched of course, and installed overtop of my 8 year old paint. They detailed the car first. You would never know the difference in paint between new and old.

Yea, Im going to be putting on a kit soon as well. So, Ive gathered so far that it would be best to put the peices on, take them off, get them painted and the car buffed. Would it be bad to just paint the peices and then put them on the car. My kit is all urethane.

hey i just got a full blitz bodykit for my 95 tsi awd and i set it on just for a second to see how it fit and the sides stuck out about an inch on each side... its a fiber glass kit yes i know there ### but i got it for 150 from a buddy never been mounted and it had a few cracks in it so what i did was i re fiberglassed it on the back side really really good with 3 layers of fiberglass and im worried that it might crack when i squeeze the sides a little to make it fit... what are you guys thoughts and please dont say "get a urathane kit" because some of us arent rich and cant afford 1000 dollar body kits when we go to college full time :thumb: thanks guys for all your help -rob :p
