Background information: I have a 1996 TSI AWD with the Infinity sound package.

I want to use all JL Audio speakers/crossovers/etc in the car. I have two 12w3 subs in the hatch but now I need the all around sound. JL has many many options when it comes to thier speakers. I was wondering if someone could tell me what THEY THINK this the best setup, using all JL Audio. I want to stay in the XR class as much as possible. I want the best sound quality. I want highs, lows, mid bass; all of it. I have been looking for a while now and I can't decide which to go with.

Thanks
Sam Beckring

What I mean, is which models? I was thinking XR650-CXi's for the front and VR690-CXi's for the rear. Does JL make a 6x9 in the XR class?? I've been out of audio for a while and I'm lost.

I don't think they have 6x9s but they do have 5x7. I think any of XR's would sound very nice. I havn't used any of them since audio hasn't been my focus, so maybe somebody with some experience with any of the models could chime in.

Are you DEAD-set on using a rear-fill?

If not, id look into just going with a VERY solid front stage. And the components you mentioned, the JL XR-650csi's or 525's (whether your 6.5 inch or 5.25) are great speakers. Before i found out that Elemental Designs was coming out with a component set, i was very close to getting a pair of JL XR's...nothing else really touches them for the money.

Honestly, i think you should look into getting JUST front stage. Most, if not all, SQ competitors run their setups this way.

Ideally, your setup would be something like a front stage of JL XR components, perhaps a JL 300/2 amplifier to power them, and then your 12w3's in the back for bass. thats perfect as is.

the JL XR's utilize an aluminum dome tweeter, which offers crisp highs, but you dont get the nasty ringing that titanium domes have. The woofers on the XR components are nice too. I like it quite a bit. plenty of mid-bass.

Hope that helped!!

I 2nd this x100. I never run rear fill in any of my cars or client's cars. As much cone area up front as possible (6.5's in the doors, 6.5's in kicks), lots of power. And just for good measure, I think the XR series stuff is great as well; you should not be disappointed. Just be sure to deaden your doors well.
