hey guys- i had this guy looking for a 97-99 gst for me, and he came home with a black 97 the other night. I went to look at it real quick, and the bumper looked funny to me. It looked like the stock bumper for a 97-99, but the headlights didnt seem to fit right. They had a gap on the inner corners of them, giving it the look of a late 2g bumper put onto a early 2g. The bumper didnt have the spot for the mitsu emblem either, its completeply flat between the headlights. At first I thought it might be off a talon, but the talon never had the same bumper the 97-99 did, right? Any idea what bumper I might actaully have? Id post pics of it, but I wont have it for another couple weeks. Thanks.

Possibly an aftermarket OEM bumper that fits bad. It sounds more like a 95-96 front with 97-99 headlights. The 97-99 lights are smaller, so it would have a gap on the inner part of the lights. Hope that helps:thumb: Oh yea, the bumper could have been repainted and the mitsu emblem placed filled in, or again, most oem aftermarket bumpers didn't have the spot for the emblem.

its not a 95-96 front- it doesnt smile at me, and the foglights have their own housing. It must just be a bad OEM... but does a company other than Mitsu make a "stock" bumper for the eclipse?

The spot where the mitsu emblem was,was probably just filled in with body filler before it was painted.(I plan on doing that also)Have you looked at the cars title yet?It could possibly be a Talon converted to Eclipse...

there are some oem style bumpers made by other companies, for instance kapa (sp?) makes stock parts for when you wreck your car so you don't have to buy mitsu oem and can save money on the same "quality and fitment." maybe the car was in a front end wreck and had a oem style non-mitsu brand front bumper put on and they didn't realize that 95/96 headlights where different design

yea my friend has a wrecked title GST (97) and the front bumper on it is kinda different. THeres a gap on his because the headlight housing was never properly fixed... they glued some stuff. But it also has no mitsu emblem space. Im guessing some company out there makes replicas. I wouldnt worry too much about it though

what do the reverse lights look like, are they circles or like 2 elongated half circles on either side of the license plate? that will tell you if its a 95-96 or 97-99 model...unless of coarse that was converted as well

I'm willing to be that front end was off of Ebay. On Ebay they sell a ton of 97-99 fronts, with no emblem in the middle. Thats probably what it is.

yeah- thats what I think it is now too. I looked at it again last night and it looked like it hadnt been painted... it was black when it came. not sure if it is primed black or just a black eurothane. Anyways, I think you solved the great mystery. Heres a cookie.
