Ok I have read all the forms and I dont want a B.S. answer. I have installed many car steroes, but nothing with a factory amp in the diagram. I bought the mount for the radio from crutchfield and the "wiring harness". Now with reading all of the forms it seems like I gave crutchfield a 20 dollar tip for the wiring harness. Is that a true statement? Also, I read a forum (which they way I took it was) only the dash speakers are hooked up to the amp. I would like to brave this in the near future but I don't want to be stuck without a radio for a week. Any advice is welcomed.

Get a wiring diagram either from the library, or buy the Haynes book or a Backup CD or something.

Also, I read a forum (which they way I took it was) only the dash speakers are hooked up to the amp.

Kind of backward.

The only time the dash speakers get powered by the factory is when the amplifier is hooked up. I don't get it, I'm not a big audio hobbyist, and I don't know what they're up to- but the factory head unit has nothing leading out to them. Also, and I'm still tracking this down- it seems the dash speakers (on a 95 Talon) need to be further connected: there's two sets of plugs taped together under the speakers, one black/black and the other color coded (I have to check again, but I think one was yellow and the other green, which matched up with the diagrams).
The front and rear speakers are connected both to the head unit and to the amp, and I don't get that, either. And they don't tell us what the DIN cable is doing.

I'd have to see what Crutchfield sent you, but I think they're very open with returns if you need to.

I think the wiring harness helps, but you don't hook up any of the speaker wires to the harness. You get the adapter cable that goes from 4 rca from your deck to the connector for the amp. thats it, all my speakers have worked fine, plus the factory amp has more power then most headunits. They only time you get into trouble i belive is when your putting all new speakers in. i installed some kenwood 3-way 6x9's in the rear and the oem speakers are a little over 2ohm, kenwoods are 4ohms.

it also helps to have a deck with 3 sets of rca, that way you can use the factory amp and add a sub without any hassles.

I went to Sound domain last night and ordered that cable to go from the deck to the amplifier. That will make installation a breeze. Before this install was going to happen I was against hooking up my EQ until a later date. With the way that cable looked I can probably get away with hooking up my EQ to the factory amp and then hook up my subs and other amp. That might be my best option for the time being. I will probably just get lazy though and just hook up the head unit when the cable gets here. I really like the way the install kit adds that little slot below the aftermarket unit. I was think about mounting my Blitz Dual SBC their. Well once I figure out how to hook that up. Electrical wise it will be easy, vacuum wise I have some questions. I have yet to come across a forum for the Dual Sbc or any Blitz boost controller. The best thing is the instructions are in Japanese. Oh well I will figure it out. I will take as many pictures as I can of the head unit install. I am sure it will be real painless with that cable.

ya i need to get my brother's, wife's digital camera. its some $2000 fuji or somethin? i've got a custom sub box i made, that i think looks good.

navyguy, does your headunit have 2 sets of preamp outs? more? less? The cable needs 2 sets atleast one for front one for rear.

and yes you can easily put in a crossover to the factory amp. somthin i have still yet to do, can't find a inexspensive crossover that has everything i need. i want one that has front and rear channel inputs, so 4 rca's in and 4 rca's out with mid high pass adjustibles. hard to find under 75 bucks or so.

The head unit has a total of four Rca Pre-outs. The EQ I have has 4 pre-outs on the back of it. I'd like to see pics of your sub box. Everything that I had in my Mustang is going into the Eclipse eventually. I have 2 Jl 10w-3's that are in a pretty nice size box. Since their is alot more room in the back of the Mustang. I am looking for some ideas for a sub box to transfer them over. I would like a fiberglass one with a Nitrous rack in the middle. I know that sounds a little too Vin Diesel, but the best things about the FF movies was the ICE, and the EVO.

I haven't been looking for prices on a crossover, but dont forget about Ebay. It has some pretty good prices on even new stuff. Hopefully next week the cable will show up next week. Eventhough I got the duty on Saturday. Maybe I will break a holy rule and abandon Football on Sunday and install it then. I doubt that will happen though.

I recently purchased a 99 eclipse GS OZ Special Edition (from what Im gathering now that Im looking into why it came absolutly fully loaded) Anyways it came with what I belive to be one that has the infinity stereo system in it. The problem I have is that I believe the previous owner took the factory amp. SO I need to know for those of you who have the factory amp still in its place, was it under the passenger side seat? I found a DIN plug sticking out from under that seat. I also found a cord coming in behind the rear seats that seemed to connect to something which I have no clue what it could have been. THe plug is a round one with about 5-6 pins. Another question for those of you who have hooked up to the factory amp. Can I connect another amp in its place using that plug under the seat? ( assuming I'm correct about it going to the factory amp) If so which color wires would be my equivalence to an RCA left and right output wire from the deck itself. ONe more question Did the OZ special Edition come with an alarm? I keep seeing a alarm light come on in my dash when I use my automatic door lock button. I realize I asked alot of questions, but Im still pretty excited about my purchase and wish to know about as much about the interior as I do about everything else in this car. Thanks

Ditch the crappy Infinity system and start from scratch. Even most aftermarket HU's put out more power than the stock amp does, so trying to incoporate the stock system in with an aftermarket one is a waste of time, not to mention a headache.

DItch the factory infinity amp

on the plug coming out of the infinity amp pick up the 4 wires for the door speaker and tweeter. (per side)

Use a passive crossover (i used one from a set of 6.5 components I had laying around and connect the tweet and dooor to it , then run the input direct from the head using other wiring, or from whatever amp you will be using.

My first system used factory mids (front door) alpine 6x9s rear and factory tweeters (with an infinity basslink) and a clarion head and sounded nice. use the adapter to avoid cutting into the factory harness, but if powering the front stage from the head simply run new wiring down the tunnel under the carpet to where your factory amp once resided.

This makes a re-stock install easy
