help, headliner problems

howdy again,

well my headliner looks like crap, it has a ### aftermarket flip up roof( preowner was a girl) and i have cig burns and the roof leaks a lil bit. basically i need a new headliner. does any one know of a write up to make a new one, or maybe a write up that has somethign custom, like rasied vinyl or whatever.

Just call around to a few local fabric stores (I got mine at JoAnn fabrics) and see if they carry headliner material. I think I purchased two yards @ 7.00/yrd. I just cut the piece to fit and used a VERY generous amount of 3M spray adhesive to attach the material to the old cardboard piece. You'll have to peel off the old fabric and get all the old foam off of the cardboard. A wire brush works pretty well. Just beware the mess it will make. Let me know if you have any questions.

Automotive upholstery shops don't charge much for this job, and it's worth it- you might want to check with a couple.

I'd have to agree with defiant on this one. I had a local shop recover my headliner and it didn't cost very much. I'd make sure I found the leak and fix it before you spend money on a new headliner regardless who does it. Also for a reputable upholstery shop adjusting for your flip up roof should be a piece of cake. Something custom shouldn't be a problem either. It just all depends on what you want to spend.
