Hey guys, ive had my dsm for a while and am up to stage one mods...My dad works on muscle cars and says the factory "pistol grip" shift knob in the car is the best...Im wondering what your feelings on this are? Im thinking about replacing it with a small ball style one...Just wondering what everyone's overall opinion was and if they like it better one way or the other. Thanks for your time.:talon:

I hate the shift knob in my car I replaced it with one from a Honda Civic! It makes a huge difference to me. I like the ball the best because it's smaller.

Most people refer to the 1G knob as the "horse ####".
Just be replacing the knob you get a much shorter throw. Mach V sells the OEM leather knob from a 2G, thats what I would recommend.

I dont understand how your a Wiseman and a smartass... I would have figured a much better answer from you...Thanks

when i bought the car it had a hurst shift knob on it...i changed it for a second gen knob and like it alot more

Uh yea, I hated the stock knob, I replaced it with a red line ball type.. I love it.. makes shifting WAY easier. IN FACT thats one of the first things I did when I got my car.

Looks great too, it is the second one from the top.

Same here....I even got it from that same place also....By far the best shift knob I've ever used in my life! Makes shifting a snap and with ease because of the weight. I would seriously think about buying it if I were you, you won't regret it. :thumb:

I have a Ractive metal shift knob. makes the shifts a lot easier because of its weight. it's about 1" shorter than the factory short knob on the 93-94's. I think a nice looking factory knob is that off a 5speed 3000gt

I have a leather Honda Del Sol shift knob on my 92 Talon. I love it. Its short, small, and feels good in the hand:thumb:

I actually loved the feel of the stock pistol grip shifter. But, I reaplced it with a leather 2G knob from MachV.com and prefer the look of that. The shifting is nice too with the 2G knob, but the pistol grip shifter felt a little better, but not enough for me to put it back on.

Yes, my shift knob is my rice mod. :)

To answer why a smaller shorter knob would make your throws shorter, because its shorter. Anyone with basic leverage knowledge knows that if its shorter than the distance is less and your distance increases with length. Anyhow in my crx I used the racerboy shift knob (the one with built in switches. Not only could I control four options, but it also seemed to make my shifts faster, smoother and easier. I also installed one in a mustang and he told me he noticed a difference also.

Good answer. A shorter shift doesn't necessarily mean an easier shift. Anyone with basic leverage knowledge knows that a longer knob provides more leverage than a shorter one.

exactly, but more leverage means longer throws. Maybe be easier but the throw will be longer. Which it seems easier to me with shorter throw. Theres not a big leverage issue to me. I mean with the right shifter/knob combo it becomes easier to shift, most cause there's less actual movement. And beside I never said that a shorter shifter made things easier, I said that my racerboy shiftknob (that replaced my factory knob) Seemed to make shifting easier, because of the feel and the contours of a knob to a person.
