rear bumper wave

Wtf is up with the wavey rear bumper in my 93 eclipse gsx? iv noticed it on a couple of other eclipses online and also at one at the mitsu dealership near here.

how in the center it kinda bows in? my 94 does that but the 90 doesnt.

the rest of the bumpers kinda curved and in 2 spots its flat about 6 inches frm either side in the middle

theres supposed to be a form fi peice of hard foam behind there, if its missing, the car has been in a rear end collision, or it just got taken out from previous owners, mine does it too

My '92 Eclipse has that - but its never been in any rear end collision...just seems to be the way it happens with them...

Mine as well, Hokie. I have heard of people using a small amount of heat to straighten the cover out (for a while).

I've seen this on many 1Gb Eclipses, but never on 1Ga Eclipses. It's probably due to the shape and how it's molded, without much, if any ridges in that area, which makes it susceptible to warpage. The rear bumper on the 1Ga has a different shape to it with lots of creases and ridges, which probably increase the structual rigidity of the bumper, thus preventing warpage.
