I am going to paint my 91 eclipse red but I am debating if i should paint the top the same red as the car, repaint it black, or paint it a slightly darker red. What do you guys think? what should i do?

P.S. If you have any pics of a 1g with the top painted it will help alot

Yeah, just opinion, but I agree on keeping the black. I can't visualize a two-tone red looking very good.

And how in the _hell_ do manufacturers pick paint shades, anyway? Even that odd lime green metalic looks just fine on a Talon, but it'd make any other car look like a carnival ride.

The red with black top looks nice, thats how mine is. Too bad the only pics I have are at night. And Defiant, my car is red with silver bumpers and trunk/hatch piece under the wing. I thought that was a wierd combo. I know the original owner and thats the way he bought it. The only thing painted later was the top.

I have the top of my 93 Laser painted red to match the rest of the car. It looks nice. I never liked the black and red combo.:barf: But thats my opinion. And what do I know huh? Just a 15 year old who got his first car early.

But it still looks good to me!:thumb:

I'm a 15 year old who got his car early as well and I personally like the black on red. I've been told to paint it all red but I don't think it will look as good. Just my 2 cents...

I think it comes down to what style you like it....

I personally think that cars with two tone paint (like almost all of the 2g talons, not sure about 1g dsms), look kinda goofy. One color looks way cleaner.

I'd go with a fresh coat of black. DSM's with black tops come with single stage black paint. This means it's not clear coated and you factory black is probably pretty faded. You won't believe what a fresh coat of black will do.
Check for hail dents first though. Because a fresh coat of black paint will make even the littlest dents stick out.

I have a rust spot on the black top, about quarter sized... will it show up much if it's painted over?

rust always bleeds threw either cut it out reweld a peice in or sand piss out of it bondo if needed and bam will look good for about 2 yrs til it starts to go threw LOL

Ill be having my car re-painted in the stock Silver/Grey color. I'll be painting my roof silver. I just like the all silver rather than the silver/black roof. My opinion though.
