Does anyone know which alarm systems are rated the best? I wouldn't mind putting down some good money for an alarm system. If it will save my car from being broken into, keyed, stolen, etc. Also, I do understand that an Alarm System is garbage if it's not installed properly.

I have a Viper, personally i wanted the Clifford, but the sales guy talked me out of it, the %$&*@%$&.

I would go with the Clifford if i was buying another one.

Compustar

I loved my Clifford Intelliguard 800IQ when I had it installed - Especially the cool proximity sensor - Now it's just sitting here in a box

Autopage, I had the RF420-lcd and loved it. Got it on sale for $60, installed it myself, and fell in love.

Cheap, reliable, and bordering on being almost too sensitive. That's what will be going in the N/T once its time.

Consider this, when was the last time you heard a car alarm going off and actually stopped to make sure it wasn't being broken in to?

People ignore the alarms, just buy a blinking light and a sticker and it'll do the job just as well.

An alarm isn't about attracting attention, its about dissuading a theif from breaking into or stealing the car.
Just the fact that a car has an alarm alone is enough to dissuade most would be theifs.

Its kind of the same thing but if your a theif, even the possibility of getting unwanted attention is a bad thing.

Matter of fact, when I put my alarms in I leave the led out. Scares the crap out of a would be theif thinking he found an easy score.

A blinking light doesn't have starter kill or fuel pump kill.
An alarm will stop an inexperienced thief in their tracks.

talk about digging up a dead thread...

Better then making a new thread.

Anything DEI (Clifford, Viper, etc) is good, the same with Compustar.

Viper all the way! 571xv, I've had it for 5 years. Stopped two break in attempts on the B15! Both left finger prints too...

I have viper with smartstart. Anytime the alarm is set off it will page my keychain if within range, now of course there is an app on the iphone you can control the alarm anywhere you get a signal. Can be tracked that way too. Good investment in my opinion

I have a starter kill on top of the alarm (Viper). Alarms don't do much these days apart to deter someone breaking your window and stealing electronics, which is good to have. An experienced thief is used to working with them (the ones that go for certain cars only, not your average coat hanger guy). GPS tracking could be used, but that's $$$ and not worth it unless you have something truly worth protecting under the hood.

Just buy a lifelike dog representation and put a swiveling head/paw attachment, that will scare them more or a trunk monkey :p

Yeah I have that also. I also agree with Absit. Blinking lights and an alarm sticker detours most thieves. Sure didn't work that one time they try to break in my car though LOL I guess they try to see if it's legit or not!
I tried looking for lo jack stickers but no avail.

To be honest, you can break a window with out setting off an alarm. If you don't know what I'm talking about good, if you do you probably know someone who used to steal cars to.

From there you can reach into most cars and rip everything open and start the car with out setting off the alarm. If you do it right it shouldn't take more than a minute to a minute and a half since you aren't worried about breaking anything.

If you have a killswitch suddenly the car is too much hassle. Just put something like "vehicle armed with multiple killswitches". Sure someone could eventually be caught but who wants to risk going to jail so they can eventually steal a car when they could easily go find another one?

Anyway, old thread.

So, which kind of killswitch can I succesfully mount inside my 98 GS. I would like something like a rocker swtich, out of sight, but I dont know if such a small switch will hold the power of the battery during use.

It's all about layers of security guys.
Alarm with tilt and glass breakage sensors, kill switches, removable steering wheel, pedal lock, etc. Layer it up.

Are DSMs really stolen or broken into that much?

I'm not sure if they are, but I'd rather mine not be apart of that statistical report.:thumb:

Most of us have walbros, just install a heavy duty switch in your power cable and run it somewhere in easy reach but undetectable. Make it easy to turn off if your ever carjacked, let the theif think he's getting away with your whip. Call the popo. He wont get far, and you'll live to tell us about it...

^Your car will die pretty quickly once you hit the kill switch.

Here's an example of what I would do to protect your car (remember layers).
Hidden Kill Switch - Fuel Pump, ECU, Starter, etc - tie it to one of these or have multiple ones.
Stealth alarm install - hide the damn brain, don't just install it under the dash, pull the dash and hide that sucker! Make all the connections look factory if a theft can't find it he can't disarm it.
Alarm Accessories - Battery back up (a must), Tilt sensor, glass breakage sensors, prox sensor, more sirens - I've got 2 Piezo sirens in the interior of my car, when those things go off you don't want to be inside.
GPS Tracking - Know if anything happens to your car the second it does.
Wheel Boot - then it's certainly not going anywhere.

Not to get into an argument but by the time the bad guy tries to restart it and figures he's been had you're gone... He'll be too and that would only happen in a carjacking scenario If you're so unlucky. Now I must say that I'm in no way responsible for your actions If your skipping down the road after being carjacked. It's just my opinion.
