You can always do yellow bulbs, I had them for a bit. Headlights, turns and markers...looked mean as hell. Problem is that I got pulled over way to much just about evertime I went out at night. I had to take them out it wasn't worth it, they sure look sick though, lots of looks and stares, looked like a GT3 car.

I was just watching some euro car videos and I was thinking why i don't see more cars running yellow headlamps in the U.S.?? Is it legal here in the States?

alot of early 90's lexus/mercedez benz have yellow headlights, i hate them, they are blinding

Anyone here replace the factory fog light bulbs with yellow bulbs? If so, what type of bulb did you use? Lexus' have yellow fog lights and I think they work 10X better.

The yellow fog lights is a very JDM look and yes they work good but you are more likely to get pulled over for just having them on when not needing them. I would get good bulbs like the Piaa yellow H3's they will work great but they run like $75 a pair. Post some pics when yuo get them. I might do the same after i do my 99 conversion.

Yellow hue cuts through fog better. Like wearing yellow tinted sunglasses on a mostly cloudy day. Better contrast. So, it's not just a "look" there's actually a good reason for doing it. US DOT lighting standards are jurasic compared to the rest of the world. You have the boomers, the old farts in charge of gov agencies, and national lobbyist groups like AAA and AARP (majority of their memberships are seniors) to thank for.

ex:

*whine* "HID's are too bright" *whine* (NHTSA launched an investigation and banned all HID kits).
*whine* "Yellow lights are too distracting" *whine* (state and local ruling, allowing cops to hassel anyone without standard lighting and issue stupid tickets)
*whine* "side markers are distracting" *whine* (while they change lanes without checking the lanes by turning their heads... how can things be disctracting if you aren't looking to begin with?)

(No... it's your eyes going bad with age, you bats.)

Does anyone know what voltage/wattage our fog light bulbs run at?

Fogs should be 12v (as with anything electrical on the car) and 50 or 55 watts.

Don't bother will bulbs claiming more than 55 watts. Lies.

The fogs use H3 bulbs (2G only), and they are available in genuine 55W, 80W, 100W and even 130W. Jeep shops carry them for KC HiLights. Over 80W can't really be used in traffic, and the reflectors don't get much benefit with the 130W over 100W. If you go with them, fiddle the wiring so they only come on with the high beams.

As for yellow bulbs- how much time do you spend looking at stuff in yellow light? Don't bother. No lights get through fog well enough to make it worthwhile. The yellow might gain you five feet, and give some antsy cop a reason to make the stop.

I have PIAA yellow H3s in my stock fog lights (pricey but worth it). They're identical, if not more yellow looking, than the IS300 foglights. My car is a walking ticket anyway, so illegal foglights won't make any difference. Although I've never been hassled for the yellow fogs, or the HIDs.

i too have the piaa h3s. they're the best fog light bulbs hands down. they'll give you the light you need and you shouldnt have any probs from cops.

No no no.....not the same old topic, this one is different.

I've seen some cars very few around my town (Orlando) riding around with yellow headlights. I'm not talking about the dirty yellow either.

It's like the yellow headlights from JGTC supercars.

What's the point of yellow headlights?
Do you think it'll look good on our DSM's??

remember i'm just askin (please don't flame me)

My good friend did yellow headlights on his Celica and it turned out good. I've considered it, there isn't a kit out yet for the '97-'99 Eclipse's though.

I believe yellow isn't near as blinding in a rear view mirror as a white light would be.

People in France think you can see better in fog with yellow lights. They also think slugs are for eating.

Yellow-tinted bulbs when reflected in the headlight housing will make it look all yellow. Some yellow lighting is also done by coloring the reflector itself.

Yeah, my buddy thought it would be cool to put in some cheap yellow nokya bulbs, and It looks good, but when he's behind you its hella blinding.

But I do think the reflector would be a good idea, and yellow casings look nice too, however my buddy decided he wanted to try it on his integra, and used translucent paint on them. Lets just say he got pulled over a lot, and when driving from vegas to seattle, we only got pulled over once, and its because of his headlights.

Just be prepared for harrassment if they aren't auxillary lights.

It's the same deal with the purple-tinted headlights that a lot of Civics are getting nowadays. They stand out, and in places like California and other inspection-anal states, it's a beacon for a cop to pull you over. That Celica looks sweet, though. Your friend did a good job on it. :thumb:

Yeah the yellow headlights are all oer here I think it looks like crap, they are teh new blue I suppose. :notgood:
