Have you ever seen a head unit like this. Its supposed to be only available in Japan. it has a flip out speaker for a true surround sound

Panasonic has actually been selling a model similar to that here for a couple years now. Not sure if they even still make it.....it wasn't too popular.

In Japan head-units like that are a dime a dozen. Seriously. Every freaking car store I walked into in Tokyo and in Okinawa had rows of head units like that. The center speaker thing is something Panasonic's been doing in Japan for a while, and I think I remember seeing some other makes with them as well. I very much wanted to justify blowing some cash on a nice double-din head unit but I already had the top of the line Sony Mobile ES head unit that cost my ass $900, bleh (no, I'm not saying it was worth it, haha). Anyway, as anyone that has been over there will tell you, they get ALL the cool shit way before we do. Someone posted car pics somewhere recently from their trip to Japan and they commented how they have much cooler commercial technology there, and I absolutely agree

Yep, panasonic has been doing that a while for SQ+ (sound quality) and it did well for some people and alot of people had a problem with actually BREAKING that dam speaker off by accident... That basically just looks like a double din of the same unit they made a couple years ago.... Except for that added gauge.

It's a lot like the cellphone industry. Hell, my head unit has a "dot matrix" on it, and people are impressed by that. (an Eclipse head unit, everything else "feels" ghetto).

Japan uses lower freqencies for their radio stations, and any dvd player wouldn't play our movies.
