leather vs cloth: weight difference???

How much do 1st gen leather seats compare to cloth seats of the same year? I plan on switching out both front seats and the rear for weight reduction.

I guarentee you that you will not notice any difference by switching seats. People get too in to the whole "Weight Reduction" philosophy. Unless your car is running below 10's little things like that will make no difference at all. I laugh every time a see a Civic with the interior stripped out to save a whole tenth of a second in the 1/4 mile if they even get that much.

To make a real difference in your time you would have to do significant weight reduction including replacing fenders, hood, ect.

I can also guarantee I won't notice a 20# difference but I would definitely notice a 200# difference. I wasn't planning on removing my seats SOLEY for "weight reduction". You don't have to run 9's in order to notice weight reduction. I ran an average of .3 of a second slower with my 150# friend in the car with a high 13 second car.

You're right gutting the interior won't have that much of an effect because most of the interior is made up of lightweight plastic. I don't plan on gutting the interior of my car (my car isn't bulimic, just on a diet:laugh: ). The only reason I’m messing with my interior is because i don't like leather seats (cold in winter and f'n hot in the summer). My other "weight reduction" is lighter wheels/rotors/bumper reinforcements: removing fog lights/converting to non-pop up headlights/manual steering rack etc.

Removing the passenger seat (since it's rather heavy) is weight reduction.

Replacing the leather seats with cloth seats is a cosmetic change. The difference is going to be less than a pound. You might as well just take a crap before you race.

As far as weight it wont make a difference unless you are doing some serious reduction where 1/2 lb would matter.

I was just trying to figure out how much each weighed to see if it would make much of a differance because i've heard lots of people say that having leather interior weighs much more than cloth. I'm going to switch them no matter what becuase i don't want leather. I was just curious what the difference would be.

you could also just use a brick on the gas pedal and jump out of your car, that would be the best way to save anywhere from 100-300 pounds instantly. Unless you have light weight rims, carbonx fiber panels and all that, i dont think its gonna matter a whole lot
