well, a month later its finally done. I remember posting about a month ago saying its almost done. I kinda got sidetracked with other crap and didnt work on it much. But today i finally finished it and got it in. All i have to do i get it wired to my battery and put the monitor in its frame. Thoughts??? the first 2 are the fiberglass frame installed and the 3rd is a pic of my newly painted gauges.(just thought id throw that in)

You are in my neck of the woods.

When I get my VGA can I hire you to make a new trim ring for it.

It will be replacing the DIN radio. I might be moving the hvac controls to the bottom of the console too.

The components would be mounted by me but I need somebody who can make a new bezel.

:D You do NICE work:thumb:

wow, thanks for the grat feedback, this is actually my very first venture iwth fiberglass and bondo, and i think i did a pretty good job. I may look for a job doing this kind of stuff. What exactly do you mean by VGA, do you have a pic? it would probably be easier to mound something to the console trim rather than the door like i did, jsut because of the shape of it. Ill keep updated on this post

i see, so your basically putting in a monitor also, just a much larger one. I will have to see what it looks like when its mounted to see how complicated it will be but, just to let you know, fiberglassing takes a long time to do. Keep me updated, sounds interesting

I priced the larger monitors.

In order to get a really bright daylight viewable one it would cost much more than I want to spend.

I'l stick with one that fits in my sterio frame or slightly larger.

a 10" one is well over a grand where 7-8" ones the same bightness are almost half the price.

Seen that before.

Look at the pic.

Now visualize triming the HVAC knob panel narrower and putting it where the bottom of the screen is. Then move the panel top edge up to where the top of the heat controls are.

Its wider up there and the console won't need to get stretched.

The black bezel is all I'd need. I could hack parts out of the old one to make a temporary or an ugly version for him to make a pretty one piece version.

i read over your writeup and probably used alot of the info from it, but i am not really a read and learn kinda person, im way better at hands on learning. Thanks again for the positive input on this. I cant wait to get it wired and all

making 2 of them would take alot of time and work. This one alone took me about 30+ hours to make after the layers of glass, bondo, sanding repeatedly, and painting. I would love to make them for people, but i really dont know if i have the time to do it. It all depends. Out of curiosity, how much would you guys pay for one of these tv mounts??? I want to do some more fiberglass work, but not the exact thing again. Im gonna look around for some ideas i can use on fiberglassing more custom stuff on my interior. Any ideas??? If i get a good idea that doesnt take a long time to make, i may be able to make copies and sell some stuff. But first i need ideas!

Hey all I need is a plastic panel glassed like you did around your sterio.
Except mine will be shaped differently.

Did you just overlay the plastic with glass?

You just rough it in and I'll do the final sanding and bondo finishing.

basically, the plastic around your ac knobs and din slots, you need fiberglass and bondo over it so you can cut it into a frame for the touchscreen? I dont think it would be that hard to do, he only thing is, making sure it fit properly. I would have nothing to work from. I would basically have to look at how yours is mounted and build from what i see. Im just not sure how its all gonna work...

I'll make my own from triming, cutting and splicing 1 or 2 factory panels into the shape I want.

I'd get the plastic to the shape I want then you do the fiberglass overlay.

Then I do the final coat.

I'm saying I'll do the hard part.

Fabricating the shape then the final finishing.

I can do paint and fill etc. I just don't know how to lay up glass.

if your gonna do all that, i dont see why you dont try fiberglassing it all yourself. I was very apprehensive about starting this project but it turned out better than i expected. Remember, this is my first time using fiberglass. If you follow the instrustions on the label, its easy. I really think you should give it a shot. If you need help you can always ask me questions. I think it would be way easier for you to fiberglass the shape you want since you will also have the install than it would be for me to try glassing it and not getting the shape perfect. i gotta go to sleep now.

great work,it looks as if it came from the factory!

u are very very well talented.

your right, that is a bad photoshop of your idea, LOL. I have to work today till 4, once i get off work ill try and ps what your idea is. Will your screen be slanted back like that or completely vertical? BTW, what else are you hooking up to this screen??? Do you have a pc in your car or what?

It looks angled because the screen was cut from the oringinal picture which had more angle.

Naw, it would more closely match the contour of the console.

I have the motherboard I wanted but its not in yet. It is tiny.

so in this picture the red part is what you will want. If you can get it to fit perfectly before i its fiberglassed, I will fiberglass it no problem. I just want to make sure youll be able get it fo fit precectly where you want it before i fiberglass it. I dont want to finish glasing over it and have it be like an inch off, LOL
BTW what is your touchscreen going to be hooked up to?
