well I wet sanded my front head lights, but they aren't clear, and they look scrathecd. They are whiter now, but can I make them look clear again? I used fine sand paper, then rubbing compound and then wax and polish.... Any suggestions..

Yes I did, and I followed those steps, but Ididn't glaze them, could that be why they are not crystal clear? What do you do to glaze them?

I first wet sanded them with a fine sandpaper, then superfine. Then dried, then rubbing compound, then wax. Now does the buffer matter, I don't think mine was spinning a 2,500. It was jsut a $20.00 orbital at walmart? I used turtle wax rubbing compound, and turtle wax polisher. How long should you sand for, and buff, and polish?

i wrote that tech article, and yeah, a 20 orbital wal-mart buffer wont do you any good. And i've never used turtle wax products, mainly because they are the biggest scam, next to the "ding king" I dont know if there compund is actually gritty or not, if it isnt, its no good, get some 3M perfect-It, needs to have actuall coarse to it, and speed on the buffer does matter, if you really want em done, PM me, ship em and i'll do em, this goes to anyone....

Thanks for the offer, but I need them on my car hahahahaha. I wish I could ship them to you, but I guess I will just be on the search for a better buffer, and no the compund was not gritty. I hope I can find one......

ok i did mine on a 1995 eclipse, i used 2000 grit, and then crocus paper. after that i used blue magic metal polish mixed with mequiars # 7 show, and shine. my lenses are clear as day, and have remained so for the last 6 months.

remember when wet sanding to do it in one direction horizontally is easiest, the same goes for the polishing. Plenty of water, and rinse the paper constantly. hand buff only, an orbital, or high speed buffer may actually "burn" the surface resulting in a dull finish.:thumb:

So if I use a 2000 grit sand paper, then 2500 maybe do I do this till I think scratches are gone, how does the polish get rid of these scratches and make the haze go away?

Well I did them again with 1500 & 2000 grit and holy shnikes!!! They look sweet, just like i thought and hoped they would. But what is this glazing thing you are talking about..... do you put clear coat over them?

the polish is non abrasive, and the wax helps to clear it up even more. i never glazed mine, occaionally i do just hit it with a little hand wax, and the clarity stays.

i guess the glaze is nothing more than a clear coat, but over time, and exposure to the elements it's gonna dull, and become discolored.

did you hand buff it?

glad to be of help
