Hey guys, I got a carbon fiber spark plug cover, and I thought about having a cf timing belt cover to go with it... anyone here know where I can get one? Or know's how to work with cf and is willing to make them? Just thought it was a cool idea, don't know if anyone's thought of it.:thumb:

I have worked with carbon fiber before. The process is similar to fiberglass except using carbon fiber roving instead of glass. The problem is making something that can withstand the heat of the engine without burning up. Anyone that does custom lay-ups could reproduce the timing belt cover but it will cost you. Carbon fiber is not cheap.

Yeh, I could probally make it but it would need a high performance resin to with stand the constant heat. It would also have to be laminated onto the original. Even thought the plug covers I made can take the heat it is not the absolute best epoxy for it. Mine has been on for 2 years though and has held up fine...they are tim though!
None-the-less, I would not feel comfortable making one as I feel it would start to look like ass after awhile and I don't want my name put with it :) I actually stopped making the plug covers also...just to be safe!

They are pretty good all around for composites. Try some surfboard or marine fabricating shop for some specialized resins...like ones that have UV inhibators built in already and such. If you do a search for "composites" you will probally pull up a ton of stuff/places to buy from. But Fiberglast is a great place to start and the have a helpful forum...of course like any other forum they can be smart asses toward newbies...but its all in fun. Good site and forum.
