Hey all,

For my next project, I plan on converting the Talon to a two-seater, but I'm going about it in a fairly unconventional way. I plan on removing the rear seats, seat brackets, etc. I also plan on raising the entire floor up about two inches, so that I can put my amplifier in the floor, and cover it with plexi-glass. I also want to put a quick release box in the floor so that I can remove the 10" sub and box quickly for when I head to the track. The overall design I'm looking for is much like the trunk/rear of a corvette or CRX. I would like two small compartments where the seats are now, and a completely flat floor from where the seats are to the rear of the trunk. I plan on using 3/4 inch plywood covered with speaker-box carpeting for the top layer, and using a 2x2 beam design for the bottom support, and to raise it off of the floor. I have an idea on what I want it to look like, and plan on having a friend who designs custom competition enclosurses help me out, but I would like some input from the group on this. Has anyone done anything like this before? Any pics? Any other advice?

Thanks in advance,
Matt.

im not sure who it was, but someone pretty recently took out the rear seats and replaced them with the storage bins from and rx-7. Do a search, it shouldnt be too hard to find, it turned out pretty well. Once you start, post pics of the step by step...

Well, DSM beat you to it, they're already two-seaters. Unless you have dwarfs for friends.
Not really a lot in the way of brackets to pull out, just a couple of hinges.
Unless you plan on carrying anvils, 3/4" with 2X2 support is _extreme_ overkill- ½" is plenty, 3/8" would probably get it.
Fairly easy job to do, show us pics.:thumb:

LOL.... Thanks for the advice. Should help keep the weight down too.... :thumb:

Guys, thanks for all the help. I've got some great ideas on this. I've got to get the in-car PC set up before I finish the two-seat conversion. I'll post pics of both of them when I finish. Should have the mounts and brackets for the PC done this weekend, along with some new tint. I'll post pics in another thread for that...

Matt.

well i only read half your post before i got this idea, why not make a frame from wood or better yet aluminum and then cover that with a sheet of plywood or again aluminum? then all you would have to do is cover it with carpet or whatever you want and drop in your amp & sub..

That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm not using aluminum because its easier & cheaper for me to work with wood. I'm using speaker box carpet to cover it....

I'd love to do that. The storage bins in my RX-7 were so damn useful. :)
