go about halfway down. i am looking at the "6 x 9" 3-way Coaxial with grille"
http://mainstreet-audio.com/rockford_fosgate/rockford_fosgate_speakers.htm

what would i need to do to make these fit in the back stock speaker places? i have read that we only have like 2" of mounting depth.

also are these good speakers. Or would the 6x9s at the bottm be better. i want my system so sound good without having to put a 10 or 12 in the back? I know nothing about speakers

You have about 2-3/4" to 2-7/8" depth stock, so you'd have to bash in almost a half-inch, or get clever. Pull your side trim, see what you have to deal with back there.

break out your trusty hammer and hammer the wheel well down to get that 6x9 in there no one will see that hammering

if you want bass out of the rear 6*9's, id recomend a custom enclosure. it would make a huge difference. but if you dont want to do that then use some dynamat. the stuff works great. without an enclosure though, it is hard to get nice, accurate bass.

There's no way in hell ANY 6x9's are going to subsitute a 10 or 12" sub. If you're looking for bass, you're taking the wrong route. Your best bet for a good sounding system, without subs, is getting a good component system up front, powered by a suffecient amp. But if you're looking for any kind of real bass, you'll have to atleast get one sub.

i recently got 2 8's in a box and they are loud as shit. but my back speakers are still nasty when you turn them up. i think i am just going to get some good 6 1/2's. so it won't be distorted

eclipse13,
I'm not a stereo expert by any means, but I have had several awesome setups. If it were me I'd get a really really nice component set (6.5", tweeter, and crossover combo) with plenty of power for the front. I've always liked my sound imaging coming from the front of the car. I wouldn't worry about the rear speakers as much. I'd get a relatively inexpensive drop in replacement and run those off of the cd player's amp, and you said you have two eights right. The eights will give you good, sharp, somewhat low bass, but if you want lower bass you'll have to go bigger. In the sub department if it were my self and wanting bass but something light also (our cars are heavy enough as it is  ) I'd buy one of those eights already in an enclosure and amplified. I've never taken time to listen to one but its an eight inch sub, a box, and an amp all in one. Anyway I hope this helps your dilema. Later.

i have kenwood 6x9s in the back on my 1g, the mag is so big i had 2 options. knock out the fender wheel or put speaker on top of plastic. i opted for the second one. doesnt look too bad, dont really care either though
goodluck,
jeff
