Quick question. I've had my exhaust on for a few years now and the stainless tip I'd like to change. I have some carbon fiber vinyl left over from a previous project and thought of wrapping the tip with it. I'ts 3m vinyl, anyone know if it will be ok heat wise? I think it will be just looking for confirmation or something I'm not thinking of. Thanks guys

Thanks for the different options guys. I'll probably just end up using duplicolor high temp paint. Have used it in the past on my cousins 402 when we rebuilt it and it looked good and held up nice. Good to know I have other options though.Speaking of the plasti dip, he has a video of how to paint carbon fiber look with their paint, maybe I could do that with the high temp paint. Was hoping to be a little more decorative than just black, who knows, just a thought.

The carbon fiber look is pretty easy to do, even with spray paint. Will look ok on something that people usually don't see up close, like an exhaust tip. Won't recommend doing it on a large surface though just because it's obvious that it's not carbon fiber.

I agree. It'll look ok on the exhaust tip but I wouldnt do it on a larger surface. I'm probably being over picky anyway, just want something besides chrome or just plain black. Nobody would notice I doubt, just a mental thing for me.

I sprayed this plug cover.

The process was; spray black, striped with gunmetal, laid down the liner and shot silver, misted black over the top of silver to tone it down. Turned out ok but I have all oem covers and another vc I'm working on to throw on there.

Yours looks better than mine did:

There are many video tutorials about doing CF effect. Some say start with silver, some say start with black. Do believe mine was "silver first".

Edit: After looking at this picture (actual CF sample) it seems like to have a more realistic look one should spray black first, then light gray or silver, and before it dries run a fine paint brush through it to create the effect of fibers in the strands. Spray black over it to create the interweave pattern.

Yeah I misted black over the top of mine after I got it to where it looked like yours ^^^ I didn't like how it was so bright, so I sprayed a mist out like 15-18" away and just went back and forth till it dulled down the silver but you could still tell what it was.

Gloss black high heat would look good for a tip. Good try's on the carbon fiber looks guys! Those valve covers need to be shaved. ;)
