Hey fellers,
I need new tires for my 2g, and rather than buying 205 55 16s for my wheels now, I figured why not buy a set of rims. So I am looking at a set of 18x9 + 24 mustang saleen rims as seen here http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/appearance-interior-exterior/442121-18x9-12-saleen-wheels.html
I was going to get 245-40-18 tires to fit the wheels. My question is, will this wheel and tire combo fit a 2ga with stock struts? I dont have the money to dump into coilovers at the moment and don't want to buy 400 dollars worth of tires just to take off in a few weeks. If it won't fit with stock struts, what is an option that will make the 18s fit that don't cost an arm and a leg?
Thanks

Those should work so long as its the same lug pattern. If not, wheel spacers can be used to offset the wheels. You will need to use longer studs most likely though

The stock springs and shocks don't really come into play with wheel fitment, so yes they will fit.

Lug pattern is only half the battle. He has to worry about the centerbore too. From a quick search I believe the CB is not a match to our 67.1mm hubs and he would need hubcentric rings to fill the gap.

They'll poke, and +1 on the rings. Spacers would only move these out further, Chris. ;)

You'll be buying new struts in the near future with those new 18's. Remember, with any new upgraded part typically adds stress to surrounding older stock parts. With those new 18" rims, you'll have thinner tires, which adds more stress to your struts and springs.

:/

It get's better with each passing day...

Lol, maybe hes a jeep guy? When you throw 37's on your stock axles, yes... you break things around them.

Putting 18's on that end up almost the same running diameter as stock.... not so much. Hell, my new 18's are lighter than my old chrome 17's... dont know if that will break stuff in the long run :D

To the op, get em and slap em on... take pics and show them off, always been a fan of clean 5 spokes!

Also, I thought the majority of Ford cars/small suvs were 5x4.5? Same as 5x114.... maybe my jeeps 37's need to go on the eclipse since thats the same.... break me some struts :)

...if not the exact same diameter based on tire choice. The cushion of a mildly taller tire is negligible in terms of saving a strut, but your ass might feel it when you size down.

I know what your throwing down. I went from 235/40/18 to 225/40/18 and I could tell a pretty big difference for not being that much different in overall diameter. 235's were all season pirellis and 225's are z rated falkens. I could feel it in my lower back just between the two sizes and sidewall differences when id go over small bumps, or Utah's lovely pot hole patches.

I do plan in getting koni yellows with ground control kit and turned to legit coil overs here soon. Think I'm gonna get the rims next weekend so when I get it and dropped ill take some pics and put then up here

Sorry I didn't realize you had a TSI. For some reason I thought you has a GS (16" stock rims, I believe). I was a told awhile ago that the rule of thumb was you were only allowed to increase your rim size by 1 inch from stock size.

I wasn't referring to rotational stress, I was referring to your day to day pot holes. A thinner tire does add more stress to almost 20 year old struts.

I know it's very minimal but to old struts its magnified.

Looks like one inch to me ROFL

Don't listen to the person who told you that. If your struts blow because you put an 18" rim on your struts were already on their way out

Sorry to get off track on the main subject matter here, I didn't mean to jack the thread at all. Those Saleens will look really nice on your TSI.
