what is the biggest difference between a 10 and a 12" sub? will 2 10" of a good brand be really good?

I have two JL 10w3's and they kick @$$...with a 1000w amp. A set of 12's will hit a little deeper but in a small car, well take a look at my gallery, the powerwedge box fills my trunk. for 90% of your music, you won't notice a differencs, but two high quality 10's will piss people off just fine.

When i had my iroc i had 3 JL 10 W3's and they kicked ass off of a 600 watt kenwood amp. Now i have the JL audio 12W3 H.O. box and what a difference in bass. The 10's were more of a tight bass sound and the 12's are a very boomy sound.

they are both relatively tight sub sizes. now when you step up to 15's that get's a bit sloppy...but it really all depends on the brand. remember, in the world of car audio you always get what you pay for. a decent 10 or 12 is gonna run you anywhere from $100-$300....don't skimp unless you have to is my advice. it also doesn't have just to do with the sub...it's a system, so the amp you use and the box are all dependant also. you'll want a good high power amp, thick wiring, and a strong box. you can get a sealed box which produces generally clearer, tighter bass...a ported box is gonna give you louder bass...but you'll lose some sound quality and a bandpass box is the loudest but has almost no sound quality...it's just loud, boomy bass. goodluck.

can you recommend the best amp to use if i want to run 2 12" infinity pefect subs?? I want pretty loud bass but sound quality is the most important

I bet it would, but won't work well with your pocket book. I say leave the 10's for the girls and the beginers.

If you're going to spend the money to buy Infinity subs, which are built for clarity, not heavy bass, then spend some dosh on a super clean amp. Those subs in a sealed box with a McIntosh or PPI Tube amp would be the start of a nice crystal clear system. If you just wanna piss off your neighbors, leave the Infinity's on the shelf and grab some cheap 15's and a big BOSS amp. It'll sound like crap up close but it'll make people wet the bed if you drive by at night.

check out JBL amps, they are super cheap and are actually a bit underrated. look into a mono class D amp...it's a sub amp. you really don't need to worry about amp "clarity" for subs cuz you're not even gonna hear a noticeable difference. you just need an amp that delivers it's actual wattage...alot of those "cheaper" brands may state like 600w rms but actually only do say 300w. you get what you pay for. i'd say go with rockford fosgate, mtx, usacoustics, jbl, etc....something like that for an affordable, decent amp.

frequency responce is a major difference. Basically the 12 can hit lower notes. What do the factory systems that have subs come with these days? 8's?

every sub has a different rms power rating....so it all depends what kind of subs you get...yes most 12's could be powered by a 600w amp sufficiently...you don't need a macintosh tho.
