Eclipse to Talon Conversion Questions
Ok guys I'm doing the out of the ordinary and changing my Eclipse to a Talon. I've got 3 Eclipses and every time I go to buy a Talon the deal falls through so I'm just going to make one of them a Talon. I have a 95 Eclipse GS-T (made it a 2gb awhile back minus the hoop spoiler) and I'm just going to make it a Talon. I know I will need the eagle drivers side airbag, the headlights, 2gb front bumper, 2gb rear bumper, 2ga twisty sideskirts, 2ga thumbnail spoiler, and taillights and also I would like the 2gb door trim (do they just stick on with double sided tape like the "16V DOHC" letters or are they screwed in?). I know all the body parts bolt right on, but I have a question about the taillights. Seeing as how the reverse lights on a talon are built in to the tails are the wiring harnesses for the taillights different on Eclipses? Also is there anything else I'm missing? Thanks for the support guys.

You have to move the mounting brackets for the rear bumper for the Talon bumper to work. I know as I did the Talon to Eclipse conversion on mine and had to move the bumper mounting brackets on mine. If you need help doingit, give me a shout. Done the Talon to Eclipse conversion on two cars now. Going eclipse to Talon is just the reverse.

You will have a hell of a time finding all of those parts. They are getting pretty hard to come by these days. Just keep looking though, one by one they will pop up so you can snag them.

I am in the middle of doing a talon to eclipse conversion right now. As soon as my new bumpers are painted I'll be putting it all up for sale. Front bumper, rear bumper, air bag, headlights, foglights and taillights. They are all stock, the front bumper has been modified to fit a fmic and has urethane paint cracking... All from a 98 black tsi.
My question tho, is about moving the bumper mounting points. If you have pictures, I would like to see. I haven't removed my rear bumper yet to check.
Thanks,
Zakk

He would still need the side strakes.
I don't have any pics from my swap from whe i put a bodykit on my old ESi. But it is just a bracket that has to be drilled off and moved up a few inches.

The side strakes on the door are drilled in. I plan to just glue them on my 99 when I do the Talon coversion to it.
I would also figure the wiring needs to be tweaked to get it to work.
What other mods are planned for the car?

Painting it white and black, maybe a black and tan leather interior, swapping my crappy little t25 for my almost new 14b that came with my 6 bolt swapped 97 gst. A boost contoller, 3" exhaust, 1g BOV, stock rebuild of the motor later, and a slightly better clutch. Not gonna do much to this one, as it is my daily.

Guys I got lucky.... Found the Twisty skirts, taillights, and low thumbnail spoiler on craigslist and picked them all up for $50 today!!! Now I just need the bumpers. Only thing is, the skirts didnt have the cups or the door pieces, just the two long twisty pieces with "16v dohc turbo" engraved in them
Oh and this is how it will look (I changed my mind on doing a Panda)
I had gofer draw this up for me.

That's going to look awesome. I am about to do the same conversion, got the 2ga talon sideskirts, 2gb talon front bumper, 2gb talon hatch and spoiler. All I need to do is get the 2ga headlights and transfer my hid projectors in them. Going to keep the eclipse rear for now and see how I like it.

Copycat. This is very similar to how mine does/will look when finished. My emblem will look the same, and the lettering on the skirts will be red like that. Mine has the strakes though.

I found one on craigslist for $100 which is awesome because everyone else around here was asking around $300. Also got the compete sideskirts for $100 as well.
Just have to keep an eye out for them on craigslist and eBay. Took me a few months to find the front bumper.

the side skirts mount with a combination of bolts, plastic clips and two way tape. The thumbnail spoiler also mounts with bolts, two way tape, plastic clips and strong velcro on the tips, the spoiler also needs a gasket or your trunk will leak , I used rtv around the edges, highly recommended. If you drill prime the bare metal, and use a grommet for the led brake light wires.
The front and rear bumper covers require custom shaped styrofoam to fill the void between the cover and the bumper, and metal plates to pinch the plastic and hold it to the frame. Also theres a metal support strip at the bottom edge to stiffen and support the bumper. You may also need to replace the wheel well splash guards, as they attach to the front bumper with plastic screw anchors. Not sure if the eclipse ones will work, maybe?
This is a big project, I got into my 2ga - 2gb talon conversion and its become a pain in the ass but slowly I am getting close to completion. Almost every bolt holding the bumper covers on snapped off in the holes I had to extract drill and retap many holes. And you need to remove all the interior panels in the trunk to access the bolts.
Good luck the 2gb look is best imo with the 2ga side skirts.

Thank you man! Yea I had a few snap off when I converted it to 2gb Eclipse from 2ga Eclipse, that wasnt fun. lol. Luckily I'll have cudadrt and my dad helping me with the conversion. As far as I'm aware the splash gaurds are exactly the same. And I had no idea the spoiler was held in with sealer, double sided tape, velcro, and plastic clips. I thought it just bolted on lol. Guess that is good to know! What do you reccomend to fill in the holes on the hatch and sides of the car from the bolt holes from the 3 piece eclipse spoiler? Just some good bondo? Thanks for the information!

I just purchased most of the parts I needed left! I got the front bumper on its way, thanks to Schwebe101 and the rear bumper, spoiler, center caps, and side strakes for the driverside will go out tomorrow or Thursday! All I need now is the sideskirt cups and door pieces, the strakes for the passenger side, and the airbag cover. Then I'll be finished!

I found the bolts hold the main section of the thumbnail spoiler on but the tips that ride up the sides of the windows need extra support, where the velcro/tape comes in. I learned this from pulling off the stocker, I'm like velcro, really?
