The guy that I am taking my car to does some of the best bodywork/paint around from what I've seen. BUT. He said he doesn't recomend installing hood pins. He said that they tend to crack hoods. I have a VIS invader hood with the latch, but I want pins so I feel safer, but not if they are going to crack my hood. Anyone know?

I have seen CF and FG crack with hood pins in, but they crack either because they where too tight, or they saved the hood from flying off or slapping the windshield.

Yes I would say it would only crack if the pins where installed improperly.

go with a fiberglass hood and paint to match I still say, CF isnt all its cracked up to be, and unless improperly installed hood pins wont crack your hood, unless its really cheap CF

Not necessary for VIS hoods hood pins are not necessary VIS is quality. ive had 2 cf hoods i know the no name sucked ass and used to float on the highway very scarey, returned that shit got a VIS which fits so good. I dont like the look of the pins either but if u must and want them on Diamond Drill bits are what to use, when drilling drill on something like a pillow or your bed to absorb vibratrions.

I brought the pins home with me after leaving the car for bodywork. He told me that they work loose over time, can crack the hood, and they rust out and look like ass in no time. Plus he brought another point- some ass will just steal my pins anyways and make me have to buy a new set just to replace the pins.

My friends pins rusted on him over the winter. I just got a cf hood and want pins. Do they make any that don't rust. I was thinking Sparco's would be good.

I got sparco pins, but I loooked at them and they appear to be emitting some brown/ rust colored oxidation on the plastic packaging. I will put them in if the hood seems to be moving any at all. I think with the vent, air won't get trapped under mine as bad. I didn't really want to put pins there. BUT if I feel like they may be needed for safety, it's always form follows function with things like this.
