My car is black and is fading bad. I am looking to get it repainted. Now i have gotten quotes of about $2000. I think that is pretty high so i figured i ask the board. What is the average price of a full paint job? I know that it depends on alot of things, but i amjust looking to get an idea of what it is going to cost me.

well,it depends, you can goto some palce like macco and pay 500, but you generally get a pretty crappy job unlessyou prep it yourself, 2000 isnt all that bad for agood paint job, I was quoted 3000 for the one I got on my mustang, but it had a considerable deal of body work too, 2000 is about average for agood paint job, you might be ableto get away with one for about 1500

wassup Jerome!
I agree with wicked. I'm looking to get my eclipse painted in the spring/summer.

how much would it cost to get a stock front bumper and stock rear bumper/spoiler and a few minor door dents taken out? stock color??

done a search and can't find a price

Just go to a local body shop and ask them for a quote. Its real simple. They most all use the same software. CCC its a collision estimate guide. The only way its going to be different is the shops labor costs. When we give estimates at my dads body shop its all done with computer. ANd all local bodyshops are within +/- 100$.

$2000 is pretty good actually. You have to think about what goes into the job. Are they painting the door jams and engine bay for that $2000? If you don't get everything repainted you will have a line where the clearcoat from your new paint ends in the door jams, engine bay, and hatch area. The reason paint jobs cost so much is because of all the masking and sanding that has to be done to do the job correctly. A good show room type paint job should cost somewhere between $3000 - $5000 normally. You can get them cheaper but like I said you will be able to tell that it wasn't all painted.

Ok, what your paying for here is not so much the paint job. They say $2000 for a paint job, HAH! Paint jobs shouldn't be more around a grand.

What your paying for here is all the prep work. Extensive prep work on the entire car to get it painted. If you can do all the prep work on your car (assuming u have the time/tools or access to em) You could save urself a shit load of cash. Not only will you save money but you might even learn a few things doing it. Ie, like maybe there is rust spots under some of the paint. Maybe u have small dings that can be bumped out or need sum Glaze coat over em. Who knows....

But Like everyone else said $2000 is a good price for Prep work/Paint job.

yes, always do the prep work yourself, its not that hard, its just tedious, heck you could do the paint job yourself if you had the tools and a booth, the reason paint jobs cost so much isnt because its hard, its because its tedious, I'm going to paint my own car next winter I think, I know how, just never have done it myself, watched others do it though, but materials cost for an average paint job is about 500, probably less, I know I could paint mine for less, one of those 5000 dollar paint jobs too, though those take a hell of a lot of time to do, it is worth it

I agree with doing your own work !!! I would rather install my own body kit and prep my car then to pay someone to do all that... It would cost close to 3500 un heard of in my book as long as you got a garage or in my case my grandpappys Do the Work yourself!!!

Just make sure you get a GOOD paint job and from someone reliable. Not ALL companies will do a good job with your car. I know this is common knowledge but recently a friend of mine had his Mustang done and they screwed the whole thing up and they charged him 3000 or something ridiculous. He's currently in the process of suing them. Just make sure this company is reputable.

hey everyone i searched in the forums for a while and i didnt find it. I was wondering how much a good paint job would cost, to change my car from red to black, i hear changing the color is more expensive. And if anyone wants to give their opinions on whether to do the paint job, or save for a hahn turbo kit would also be appreciated. I am going to have $1000 so what should i do with it?

You can go the Earl Sheib route for $300 and just get the external body bits painted but I wouldn't recommend it.

Complete color changes are a pain to do correctly... Engine bay, interior bits of the doors, door hinges, hatch, hood etc... Better off color matching IMO.

Might be better served by taking your car to a detail shop and have them see what they can buff out if you have some color fading/scratches and spend your money on bolt-ons

My paint job cost $500 with two coats of clear, and so far its held up great(had it done about 4 months ago) :thumb: . I would not recommend painting it your self, black is the hardest color to paint since it shows all your dings and dents.

A professional shouldn't have any trouble going from red to black.

Check out my gallery to see my car :rocks: .

Hey man , a good paint job that is worth a shit , is going to start at 3000.00 - 4000.00 done the right way. I had my 1998 gst painted black but lucky for me I am good friends with the guy , he paints custom bikes and cars , he is great, people are amazed at my paint job, better than factory, no orange peel . About the turbo thing, do what everyone else said unless you want to spend the money on your car then go for it. Good Luck :rocks:
