Does anyone know what I can do about saving my hood once I've cracked it during hood pin installation? They started out tiny but with driving, they've slowly increased in length. Damn!!! I feel like such an idiot! If anyone out there has any advice on what I can do, I would GREATLY appreciate it! Thanks Everybody! :barf:

The only thing you can really do is get the cracks repaired and you will have to have the hood painted.

Anybody know how to fix the cracks though? If the clear coat can be sanded down and reapplied?

I dont think you will be able to sand down the clear coat without harming the finish of the carbon fiber. You could always try selling it to someone for cheap since it would have to be painted.

Did you crack the hood or the UV coat? I don't think CF hoods come with clear coat unless you paid over $1,000 for it.

I know you probably would not do tis, But the best way to STOP any crack after it has already started is to drill a hole at each end of the crack. We call this process stop drilling. Usually use a number 30 drill bit.

Thanks for the tip Ed. At this point, I'm taking all suggestions so it is appreciated! I have one last hope with a local paint shop that I'm going to on Monday. They made some calls and were told that its an epoxy resin on top. So long as its not cracked completely through, they might be able to sand it down to the fiber and then re-resin it. Neither they nor anyone around here has ever tried it, but the way I figure it, what do I have to lose right? If anyone else has any suggestions, let me know. Otherwise, I'll let you guys how this venture goes!

He probably dont remember since it was 5 months ago:rolleyes:
