I am buying a 2g eclipse with a bad motor. I have a 94 Laser RS n/t with a bad tie rod, and rear brakes. I plan on putting the motor from my RS into the 2g. Any tips/hints on what to do?

It is really not that bad to and with the help of this site makes it alot easier, good luck and post some pics when your done

I plan on taking pics throught doing it, thanks for the help

Is the 2g Eclipse a turbo model or non-turbo model?

If so, then you're going to be trying to do a 420a to 4g63 swap, which is not easy. Research to find out why. Even if the Eclipse is a turbo model, there are still a few things that need to be changed.

they are both non turbos so im really hoping it will just drop in....ish with minimal extra work

Not going to be a direct drop in the 1g non turbo is prob the 4g63 na and the 2g is a 420a chrysler motor - not compatible - way more work than its worth -open your hoods and take a look the motors and trannys are on total opposite sides
not practical

I looked at the 2g once and the motor and tranny were on the other side, but isnt the 4g63 better than the 420a motor? And looking at pics on the internet of a 4g63 and a 420a it looks like the 2g is a 4g63. It has a red head with a dohc 2000 on it.

The non-turbo 2g engine is a 420a, a Chrysler motor. The transmission in that model is on the driver's side. The turbo 2g engine is the 4g63, where the trans is on the passenger side. The swap is VERY difficult, and VERY expensive. EVERYTHING is different. Axles, wiring harness, ECU, Transmission, Engine, Motor mounts, Everything.

So unless you're made of money and have done this swap at least 3 times before and know exactly what you're getting into, pass on it, or replace the engine with another 420a.

Sell the rs and buy a motor! LOL... Sorry I didn't realize any of that before :/

no a 2g non turbo is the 420a motor not compatable with the 1g n/a totally different and way more time and money for the swap than its worth - very difficult
