I'm looking at getting either memphis audio, planet audio, diamond audio. What brand do you think would be best?

Well, I'm not familiar with any of those brands. However, I will say this, like with anything, you get what you pay for. Unless it's all decked out and "bling bling", cause then you are paying for looks and not quality. I'm very happy with all my Kenwood purchases. If you are stuck on those certain brands then I would get on google and look at other peoples product reviews, that's how I research everything I buy. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks, I know memphis and diamond is good, I've not run anything from pa except an eq. I've run alot of mtx, don't like rf or sony, or pioneer except their recievers.

I guess it would depend on what components you are looking for. Head units, amps, subs, tweeters, etc. I am very biased in my information, but can tell you this: I've had 2 head units, both Kenwood (I still have 1, other got stolen) They are very high quality with great sound quality/features. I have 3 Kenwood amps: (2) 920 Watt ones, for each 12" sub. And also an old school 300 Watt one for my 2 Kenwood 6x9's, which sit in small enclosures in each of the back seats. Oh, and the (2) 12" 1200 Watt subs I have are also Kenwood. Never had a problem with any Kenwood component. And, yes, my system is overkill and I did grow out of "bumping" in the last few years. But since I have the stuff, might as well have it hooked up :hellyeah:

Edit: Good thing my alternator has a Lifetime Warranty, ...too bad they are junk anyways, I'm only increasing the already increased chance of failure... :(

These are the subs I planned on getting when I had some spare cash. They are competition subs and pretty cheap considering the quality of them. I have only heard good things about them....

AudioQue

It all depends on what you want to spend and what you are looking for. For component speakers I recommend alpine type R's or type x's. Subs I prefer audioque, alpines, some MTX are alright, some old cerwin vega subs, JL audio is expensive as hell but good shit (w7's), Memphis, umm and that is about it that I know from experience. What amp do you have to power whatever you want to get?

Im very biased on car audio.

First off Memphis:
They have NOTHING that impresses me. Except for the MoJo line of subs and amps. We have a MoJo 15 in my buddies Extended cab S10 that we compete with. Sounds great, hits hard, and holds alot of power.

Planet Audio:
Not familiar with them, but have heard good on their amps.

Diamond:
They make really nice subs and amps. They're stuff isnt overrated at all. You get whats advertised. You buy an 800 watt amp, you are getting 800+ watts (not 175 like other manufactures, LOL)

Just do some research man. The "you get what you pay for" mentaility Does and Doesnt fit with car audio. You just have to know whats good and what isnt.

This would be a ground up system, from reciever to subs, the whole nine yards. I don't have exact numbers for the products, but here is my list:

1.) Eclipse audio cd reciever w/ mp3/ipod controls.
2.) Memphis/planet audio/Diamond audio 6.5 componets.
3.) "4x6" dash speakers, one of the afore mentioned brands.
4.) 4 channel amp for those
5.) planet audio/memphis 4 band eQ
6.) 2 12" subs 4 ohms
7.) 1 mono sub amp

I'm just not sure which brand I want to go with on wich componet.

Has anyone ever bought from this site?

I will say this: I've bought an amp, speakers, and a CD player off Ebay.......Not to mention countless other things.....Ebay may not be a recommended site for DSM parts, but the audio and everything else is fine and cheaper, usually. Another of my $.02.

Edit: Especially if you buy discontinued items.....That'll save alot of $. Just check out the feedback ratings on the seller.

I had 2 volfenhag subs in my GS. They both lasted 3 years without problems. I sold them with the car and theyre in someones daily driver right now. If you decide to try one, try ONLY one. You wont need/want any more bass than that.

Thats what they look like. They make a different one with a smaller flex section that I havent heard anything about. Go with the meaty looking one.

All i have even run is Clarion, RF, MTX, and Memphis. As stated above memphis does make an ok comp sub, but they make phenominal tweeters. They call them Street Edges. They are amazing. And since you are asking for advice on a system on here i take it you dont know a whole lot about systems therefore will be satisfied easily LOL. A decent amp will make or break the whole system, read reveiw after reveiw on your amp before you make a purchase. Subs, just get something with a high peak so you dont blow them, and make sure they are sturdy and not shallow mounts or anything (the bigger the magnet the more boom boom). Make sure their frequency response is broad. Dont just throw them into any box, make sure the box is tuned to a decent frequency if its a ported box or youll sound like crap. Do your research. And if your not looking for crazy loud 10s will suffice. Hatchback + 10s = 15s in a normal car.

I've forgotten more about car audio than most will ever learn, key word is "forgotten".
Diamond audio used to be the cats meow and I've also had some great sounding Memphis component speakers. Dollar for dollar though Hifonix makes a killer amp, most of them use to be 1ohm stable. Laugh if you will but I've heard a great sounding system composed entirely of Lanzar.

I wanna add one more thing in here. If I was going to build a good sound system in my GSX, I would go with a pair of 10s. a 10" sub is gonna give alot tighter bass than a 12. Overall, youre gonna notice more clarity with it. It also depends on the kind of music you primarily listen to. If you like rap or techno, I would go with a single 12. most rock music has seemed to be better with 10" speakers paired with a good set of midrange speakers.

Midranges are gonna be what makes or breaks your sound quality. If you just throw a sub in it right now, youre gonna end up with crappy high tones, heavily distorted mids, and more bass than you would want. My suggestion would be to go with some 6" components in your rear speakers and doors.

I had some really good luck with MTX components on power acoustik amps. I had 6" components in the doors of my GS, 6 1/2" MTX components in the rear speaker areas(modification required), a 500w amp under the driver seat, another 500w amp under the passenger seat, a BIG ported box in the truck with a volfenhag 12" DVC sub on a 2000w amp, and new high quality shielded cable all around.

To the OP, everyones answers and recommendations here when it comes to car audio is BIASED.

See if you can demo them somewhere, and decide on your own.

One person's recommendation is another person's crap choice.

Im running a premier 800prs thru a jl tma amp and a diamond d3 sub. Its the best sub iv ever had, it hits hard but sounds clean. It is loader then my freinds 2 jl w3 and a 800wat memphis amp. I highly recomend diamond.

Memphis make great subs i worked at an audio shop all throughout highschool, they make some of the durable speakers on the market, but outside of there subs they really have nothing to offer. Planet audio are fairly nice but they are owned by RF. Diamond audio are clean but dont handle bass well.

My car is in the shop right now. I have some Memphis 15-prs6 components going in the front. I will let you know how that works out for me when it comes out.

I have been told my system is going to be overkill. I am anxious to hear just how crazy it is going to be. I will open a new thread wih the rundown.

Install is complete. System pounds.

The memphis components that I got [15-prs6] sound pretty damn good for the money! I paid 90 cash for them brand new at a local shop. They matched the RMS that I needed for my system. I still need to do some tuning because the shop didn't quite get it where I like it. My 9 band graphic eq has been able to clean things up quite a bit but I still found some holes. I think my high pass isn't adjusted to match my subs yet.

Anyways, they sound great. I have cranked them as loud as I would ever listen to them..actually a little bit louder..and they didn't break a sweat. The highs were crystal clear. The mids need tuning but they sounded decent.

If you are on a budget..I say grab a set. If you have more money to spend, get some diamond audio..they wont disappoint in the least.

I have 2 15" JL W3's in my car, with a 1000w single channel amp, and its too much. I have to turn the bass all the way down (-9) just to hear any lyrics what so ever, so if you want your car to sound like a donked out caprice...get what i did. As for me, i'll pull the system once i get my car out of winter storage.

MEMPHIS wil be the best choice you ever make via car audio i work for a memphis dealer and have for 4 years now and we carry almost every brand out there and i have had more luck with memphis than anything they have a 3 year warranty longest of any car audio brands and there product sounds amazing and looks great there 2009 2010 line is all new deff check them out also you cant beat there prices you get more than you pay for if your having trouble finding a memphis dealer and need the hook up let me know or have questions about what set up to go with im a mobile electronics expert so PM me hope this helped

i am running two diamond d9's 12 in subs in my car and and a 800 watt diamond amp pushing them and at a show i hit 151 db's with them. with diamond subs they recomend you have a special box for them. they will supply you with plans to make it or you can have it built for your car. they are a real nice sub, nice deep bass and very clean sounding also
