why does everybody elses 1g BOV sound so cool and mine doesnt make any sound at all?

well ive searched this and pretty much found out why it doesnt make the sound....ny car is completely stock so i guess its not suppost to.... i dont have money to get a MAF and translater and i dont want to vent mine anyway

but i was wondering if i get an ebay greddy knock off BOV for like 30 or 40 bucks and still keep it recirculating, then will it make the sound?.... im not really looking for it to whisle... i just want a strong psshhhhhhhhh

Get yourself a K&N, intake hardpipe, and the free intake mods on vfaq.com and you will hear the bov NOTICEABLY.

The higher boost you run the more noise it will make. Mine is recirc and it is loud as hell. I made a CAI and put the air filter down in the bumper where the stock SMIC used to be so it echoes off the pavement.

I didn't even think of that. Mine is Dodge-modded and crushed and I run 28 psi. I am actually very surprised how loud it is...it definitely sounds vented.

I agree with the intake, ditch the factory air box and replace it with a cone. The factory air box is made to "silence" the intake air charge.

Just put the thing in a vice and crush the top in ever so slightly. Or you can convert to speed density via Jackal and vent your BOV without running rich afterwards.

Don't crush your BOV for stock or near stock boost. When you get the supporting mods to up the boost, you'll hear the BOV more because it'll be letting out a lot more air.

Bad idea when its not needed yet! Doing so with low boost will cause the bov to flutter, and fluttering is bad on turbo's. Its not needed to around 25+ psi.

Have you done thee bov dump tube cutoff? Even with the stock intake piping, mine was pretty loud with it cut down.

Just noticed you have a 1g I don't know if they have the tube in the intake so ignore this if not.

My bov is recirculated and it makes plenty of sound. I also have the aircan taken off and a K&N filter on the intake. You can hear the air passing through the filter on the intake and the BOV when released. I still have the stock intake piping.

IDK if this will effect the sound of the BOV, but maybe you have a boost leak.

If you want a louder bov maybe you can get a new one. A greddy or a HKS bov are plenty loud.

i have a 2g with stock 2g blow off and as soon as i canged out the stock airbox for a cone filter the sound is loud as s**t dont crush especially if you are still stock

You could have found a good deal on a Real brand bov if you look around a tad.
I got my Greddy Rs for 50 bucks last week.
But it just sounds like you need to get an aftermarket hard intake (I have Injen)
and you will hear a difference my 1st gen bov (uncrushed) Sounds loud as hell and it's still recirculated.

I dont think anybody has asked but make sure you dont have any boost leaks and that the vacuum line to the bov is hooked up....just making sure this is all set.

DON'T crush the valve unless you're running over 20psi and need the extra holding power. It will not open fully under low boost and compressor-surge the hell out of your turbo.

DON'T vent your valve unless you're properly set up to do so. The car will stall between shifts or anytime the throttle is cut, so you'll be a danger to everyone on the road.


If you want your valve louder, a hard-pipe intake and intercooler piping will help. The best solution for a louder blow off valve is to do all the appropriate mods and crank up the boost.

A hard intake made my stock 2g bov actuakky noticable to people. I too have a k&n filter but I don't think that has an real effect. The pipe does though.

Its the biggest piece of crap ever!!just look on the classifieds for an aftermarket intake and a good blow off valve.

what are your plans for your car? are you going to get an aftermarket turbo? exhaust? front mount? don't skimp out on ebay crap. its going to break and your going to have to spend more money to get another one. just buy the right stuff the first time and you will be happier in the long run.

your right, everyone should make their car as quiet as possible. They do it because THEY LIKE THE SOUND. Its really not that hard to understand. What the deal with trying to talk shit about ppl that like the sound of their bov? I guess only a jerk would understand

i did a boost leak test 2 weeks ago and it held 20 psi.... my shit is sealed up tight! my plans are to get hard IC piping but keep the sidemount, Dejon pipe with K&N filter, 3inch downpipe with 3inch custom exhaust, Boost controller, boost gauge, air fuel gauge, BCS mod, MAF honey comb mod and that will be it for a long while because i will then move on to lowering it and appearance..(unless there is anything else i should do like dump pipe)...i know nothing about these things being as this is my first turbocharged vehicle and i havent really been around them much besides watching them race and looking under hoods.

the only mods ive done so far is hacking up the air can and and removing the star shaped silencer... i can hear the filter sucking in the air... but i dont hear the BOV at all and i mean not the slightest little bit.. i mean theres guys in this thread saying they have the stock intake pipe and theres is noticable, shouldnt i be able to here mine atleast slightly?
