Just a quick question on the speakers in a 2g.

Preface;
I know JACK about car audio....:D

I read a few posts on here that said that the factory speakers in these cars are a component set of speakers with Xovers and blah blah... If I want to replace the factory speakers, can I just get normal every day 6.5s and 6x9s or am I looking for something more specific to recreate a decent sound?

You can get the 6.5's and 6x9s with no problem, that's the set-up i am running. Although my factory amp was disconnected by the previous owner, my speakers still sound great.
At low volume it might sound like the music is more toward the rear than the front, but when you crank it up you won't notice anymore.
I don't plan on reconnecting my amp, but if you decide to run your stock amp you won't have to worry as your dash speakers will keep working. The problem comes in when getting rid of the factory amp, the factory dash speakers are powered by the stock amp, when this is disconnected the dash speakers are automatically out of work.

I think there were several sound system options, maybe including an infinity high-end system with self-amplified speakers. My point: Try to dig-around to find out what's in your car. It makes a difference in how you'd want to go about an up-grade. Possible placed to start; owner's manual, nearest mitsubishi dealer, Crutchfield: LCD TV, Car Audio, Home Theater, Speakers, Plasma TV, nearest high-end car stereo shop. Try to be positive exactly what you have before you buy anything new. Crutchfield will give you the appropriate wiring adapter plugs for free if you buy from them, but you can't be sure the actual speaker will fit without seeing it.

I'm a big fan of the Kicker KS series speakers. they sounds great and are pretty reasonably priced. I'd def recommend these and a decent 4-channel amp.

Not sure if this narrows things down...

The Amp is located in the engine bay, I do NOT have one under the passenger's seat and from what I can tell, the tweeters that are stylishly located on the dash board, as far as I can tell are not there...

Possibly not functioning... But they look hollow...
