My passenger door being opened does not turn on the dome light or indicator on the dash. I've replaced the switch . The trunk and drivers side door both turn on the light. Is there a seperate ground?

its a 95 talon if that helps

Ok so apparently every switch i touch is broken. The one that works works on both sides the 9 other ones i purchased from people and junk yards dont?

Well a junkyard switch is going to be worn and corroded just like yours is. Get a NEW one OR Take your pin switch apart and clean the contacts with some emery cloth then fill it with DIELECTRIC grease. It worked perfect for me. I'm too cheap to buy new switches.

To get the switch open use a small pocket knife to pry the tabs up on the switch and pull it apart.

Its NOT very complex....just a brass tap with a spring in it. When you get it open you will see the GREENISH colored corrosion on the brass tabs. CLEAN that off with some light sand paper then apply the Dielectric grease and snap the switch back together :thumb:

I was wondering if the OP has fixed this issue. The reason why I'm asking is I have the same discrepancy except the lights don't come on when the driver's side door is opened. I'll check the switch's condition today after work.

make sure they turn on when you open the other door. More than a couple times i've "fixed" this problem simply by turning off the dome override switch. sounds stupid, and it is.

For a while, when my driver door would open the light wouldnt come on, but when the passenger door was open it would. So I knew the switch was bad, I took it out cleaned it up and it works just fine now. I had to do it to the passenger switch as well a couiple months later. But they both work fine now.

Well how bout when I open up both my doors the little light in the dash that shows door ajar is on and the light in the trunk is on...but there are no other lights that are on...footwell, mirror etc...I can even try to turn the mirror lights on by their switch nope no light...

Ok so I took the switch out and inspected it. Turns out the switch had a lot of corrosion on the contacts and when I tried cleaning it, a piece of the + looking contact broke. Regardless, I installed the switch again but it still didn't work. So just to make sure that there wasn't a wiring issue, I took off the passenger side one and installed it on the driver's side. It worked so now I need a new switch.
