hey,

i finally got pictures of my car online, i just got my digi camera tonight so the pictures are taken in the dark, i will get some up tomorrow after school

but anyways im going on thursday to pick out an alarm for my car, i have $250 to spend on one, which one would you recommend? which specs should i take into consideration when picking one out? thanks

I went with a Viper 300ESP with the field sensor, the field sensor allows you to have the alarm go off if there is activity within 5ft of your car (it, of course, is adjustable!) It cost me about $400 installed, but you can probably get it on ebay and do it yourself for much cheaper!
I like my Viper.

just my .02

Yeah I have the viper 790XV. It's to me the best two way alarms system out on the marke. I first got some bs one which was more expensive and it fried my ecu on my Expedition. Definately don't go with some cheap one because it looks cool. Before I went with my Viper in my Expedition I was going to upgrade from my crap one to the Autopage rs-750lcd

because it looked cool, told the cars temp, and told the time on the remote, so I got one cheap off of ebay. I wanted to get a second lcd remote so I called the company and they gave me the info for an authorized dealer who installed them in my area to order from. I went an talked to the place and they said autopage's alarms are crap and they refuse to work with them anymore because they have so many problems which causes false alarms. Go with any DEI product because they have proven themselves to be the best in car alarms. DEI owns Viper, Clifford, Python, Avital, Sidewinder, Valet, Hornet, Rattler, and Wasp. I'd love my the Viper 790XV. I have it in my SUV and I'm going to install it in my Eclipse when I get it back. I added the auto window roll up and down on my SUV. On my eclipse I already have the perimiter sensor from my old viper so I'm going to have that alond with the window going up and down. They only come with one remote and the second cost about $100. The option for the windows were $87 per pair of modules. They also have tunk pop but that doesn't work for dsm's or my suv.

There is a Clifford version out too.

I have the crimestopper cf2006fm and it is an ok alarm beside the fact i replaced the remotes 4 times and when its really cold the siren goes off, when i got it a year and a half ago the viper was not out yet.......to anyone looking for an alarm just stick to DEI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stick with DEI, I do the 300ESP for $219 installed all the time, most places are more money, but in your price figure that would be your best bet.

BTW....the Responder 790 is a great one, I can get a break from installing them.

how trippy are perimeter sensors? can you set them to different sensitivities? I don't want punkass kids spraying silly string and #### on my car or leaning on it, etc. I'm sick of dealing with 14 y/o's that wanna sit on my hood and pose for pics. (Yes, it happened b4) I saw the pic in HS. Some ### claimed it was his car and wanted in the year book. He sat on my hood for the damn pic.

The perimeter sensors are fully adjustable. You can have it go off if someone puts their hand inside your window area or if someone comes x amount of feet close to your car. With that you can also do one of those please step away from the vehicle or you can make a custom message of you cursing them off but you car would probably get keyed. I had mine real sensitive and it would trip 3 times a night because deer or some dumb animal would sit under my car for the warmth so I had to turn it down because I got tired of bypassing it at night. I don't know how much you alarm going off will prevent some d*ck head from taking pictures with your car but it's worth a shot. Most people ignore car alarms from my experience, that's why all my crap got stolen! But at least the alram prevented them from being able to steal my car.

As much as I hate to admit it, the Audiovox APS995c has more features than the Viper you guys speak of. My brother got that Viper and now he is going to swap to the Audiovox after he saw it on my car. One nice thing is you can check the inside temp of your car by pressing a button on the LCD remote.....nice for Michigan weather. ;) Plus 5 Aux channels? and remote start? can you ask for more?Audiovox APS995c

I like to stick with Alpine for alarms. They have always been bullet proof for me. I like the dual stage perimiter sensor over the other ones on the market to. The newer ones are fairly cheap and offer alot of features. But you don;t get the kewl little LCD remotes or anything, just a rock solid very dependable alarm system. The one I have right now has been through 3 cars and is about 8 years old and still does the job very well. Not to mention the siren has a totally different tone than all of the DEI products which everyone knows and ignores.

Features and temp dont matter...I mean in that case, get a DEI channel Expander, and a 556T timer module. It will start your car any time/date/or Temp that you set it for.

I trust DEI strickly on reputation, reliabilty, stability, and the easiest to find a dealer for IF there is a problem.

I agree.......I've never had any problems with DEI products before, until now. I had a 520T back up battery, and the diode pack went bad and was killing my battery. But other than that, no problems. I have the 556T also, and like it a lot. Most of the problems with alarms stem from improper installation. I couldn't tell you how many installs I had to fix from other 'reputible' places due to improper connections.....
