Hey guys. This is obviously a newbie question and I am sorry if it sounds dumb. I would have put it in the newbie section but since this is the section specially created for non-performance mods, I wanted to ask it here.

I was just wondering if most of you put new body kits on your cars yourself? And then take it somewhere to get painted? Or do you just buy the kit and get someone to put it on as well as paint it? Also I was wondering how hard is it to put a kit on if indeed most of you do it yourself? I mean do you need to seriously know what you are doing? Or can someone do it with limited knowledge?

The reason I am asking is becuase I plan to buy a 1g GSX, but I want to put a body kit on it. I like the look of the 2g's better but I perfer the performance and reliability of a 1g. So i was going to just stick a kit on there. But I was not sure if I can put the kit on myself or if I just need to buy it and get a professional to do the install.

Well thanks a lot for the info!

In my opinion i wouldnt bother with a body kit on a 1G, those cars arent made for show. Plus these cars look good the way they are, they dont need body kits to look good.

You can, but the front bumpers mods usually reduce you to eating soup and milkshakes through a straw, the sideskirts bind terribly when you try to sit in a theatre seat, and we won't _even_ go near the personal restroom challenges with most of the rear bumper kits.

If you've not done a fair bit of bodyshop work, the first three kits you do will always have mistake areas that'll drive you nuts every time you look at them.

If you end up doing it yourself, you need to get it attached to your car and do any mods that need done to make it look right or attach properly. Then when that is all done, I would recomend tking it back off, and have the kit painted seperately from the car. Your side skirts should be painted first though, and after your car is painted, then put on the skirts. That's if you are going to paint the whole car.

hey 98 silver GS...what is the name for that thing on your rear windshield...the deflector. looks great. where did ya get it?

Hey, why can't I get in your car? Oh yeah, the door handle broke off, it's a 2g.
Why did your wheel fall off? Right, you forgot to get the balljoint recall didn't you!
Why isn't the motor running? Oh yeah! Crankwalk! :thumb:

My 4bolt/6bolt has none of those issues. Now granted I like 2g's, but they do have more "common" issues than 1g's do.

I couldn't agree more with that.

I put mine on my self! It looks like crap..... I did some shaving and stuff to get the doors to open and the front clip to fit, but it's all coming off to get painted. Plus the body shop is going to go behind me and touch up the stuff I messed up.....whoops! I wouldn't try it. But hey, I'm just a girl, I might just suck at body work right??
