i am planning on buying a set of subzero flat black wheels and i need to know what offset i should go with. i want 17"x7.5 and then obviously 5x114.3. i would like to fit a set of 245 tires on the car or whatever the biggest set is without sticking out of the fenders. (1997 tsi FWD)

thanks in advance guys!

Depends on which brand 245 tire, but if its say a Falken Azenis Rt-615 which is 9.1" wide, you would have maybe .150 clearance between the tire and the rear knuckle on a 40mm offset wheel. The wheel and tire are gonna stick out a good .250-.350" outside the front wheel well. If you use the 45 or 48 offset then it would rub on the rear knuckle, though it would tuck the tire back inside the fender.

I'd run a 225/45/17 tire on the Rota Subzero 17x7.5" 45mm offset. This setup would tuck in perfectly and would clear the widest 225 tire out there.

I run a 35mm offset on my 2g and the wheel the tires stick out about .100" or so, which I hate. I'd have preferred the 45 mm offset as I still would have had tons of clearance and I like my rims to be tucked in as much as possible without out rubbing the suspension.

If I get another set of rims I'm running 17x8" instead with probably a 235 wide tire on a 40 or 42 mm offset.
