[RESOLVED] stereo problem,massively annoying please help!!!

ok, lately my car the radio has not been working. it is really crappy because i cant drive without my spice girls on.ok that was ajoke. but the problem is whenever i hit the brakes the radio turns off and wont work unless i pull the whole thing out and unplug. a simple conclusion to this would be dont use your brakes,but we all know that wont happen. maybe this happen to someone and they fiqured it and can help me. any info can be helpful. electronics is not my forta... thank you

Could be problems with your alternator or battery if the lights get dimmer or fuses, wiring, or your stereo itself.

I would first suspect a radio power feed shorting around the brake pedal, grounding the radio power and shutting it down. If there are loose wires around the brake pedal, they need to be rerouted.

checked all the wires and stuff. took the stereo out of my bros dsm and it worked in his car but dont work in mine. does the same as my radio. the alternator get 14.2 volts so i know it aint that. it sucks

Make sure your battery is tied down, and not shorting against the hood or tower bar. See if your radio's power supply is the same one going to the brake lights- their draw may be dropping the radio's memory below its maintenance threshold.

this could be a long shot, but check your fuse for the radio. Mine used to be loose in another car I had.

sorry about the fort. i checked all that stuff you mentioned and it is none of the above.

its just an odd situation because the brakes don't have anything to do with the radio. You may have to start tracing wires and make sure nothing is shorting out on other stuff. Is it when you brake hard it cuts off or does it cut of as soon as u touch the brakes?

Is your radio harness soldered, or tube crimped? How old is your battery? Did you check if your brake pedal is hitting your ground or knocking it loose?

Is the HU stock? Have you ever run any speaker wires anywhere in the car? Have you done anything since you have owned the car to the stereo system? or done before you bought it?

Only thing that could cause the 12V loss, could be power-piggyback- from the brake switch. Other than that, if anything grounded , it would pop a fuse.

And i would think you would notice if the battery was moving cause the HU would not be the only thing you see go off, or wrong.

So , the other possibility is could be would be speaker wires or, a harness above the brake pedal itself that is getting pushed and making a bad connection to the HU Memory wire, or ground. Make sure some one did not run the ground wire to the bottom bolt on the steering column and its making a bad connection when you press the brakes.

I seen alot of people run the ground wire, to that nut. Have you gotten on your back and laid under the dash and looked for any of this ?

i think i found the problem. recently i have been relizing that the volts were dropping. well, the other day i went to start my car and the battery was dead. the conclusion was the alternator was shot. i changed it, and the radio is back to normal. thank you and i really am thankful for the help.
