WOW.. the suade looks great!! I've got my headliner out right now and plan on doing this exact same thing but with black suade. Did you use actual suade or that micro-suade synthetic stuff?? I was thinking of using the micro suade since I believe it's not as tempermental (I'll be doing the door panel inserts as well).

As for the question about Fusion paint. It works great on plastic! I'm not so sure how it would work with the rubber pieces used for the handle though. For that you might want to use Duplicolor Vinyl/Fabric paint, but if you're gonna go that route... you should just use the Duplicolor for all those plastic/rubber pieces. I know InfiniteGSX accidently got Fusion on some of the vinyl peices on his door panels and he said that it didn't stick/dry to it. It might react the same way to rubber... I'm not 100% sure.

I would suggest cleaning each peice throughly (I used some soft scrub on the rubber peices used for the O-Shit handle), and then taking a red scotchbright pad to roughen the surface up a tiny bit before painting.

Great job! I've been wanting to do this same thing for quite some time. Mainly to mask the cheap plastic feel, plus black would be nice. :)

I'd love to see more pics of the process if you have them!

A few questions...

Where'd you get the suede fabric? Ebay link?
What Joanne fabric spray adhesive did you use?
How hard was it to remove the headliner and apply the suede?

Looks great by the way...obviously.:thumb::D

krylon fusion paint to paint the visor and handles dark grey

Ive painted my whole interior from grey to black, the Krylon Fusion works great on plastic but it seems to crack on "bendable/movable" surfaces, for the handles i would suggest Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric paint, it seems to hold up great on my "oh shit handle"...why were talking about interior, does anyone know where i can get a new headliner? the car never came with one, previous owner took it out...

oh BTW it looks great...can u please give us a link for the ebay auction? I've searched but couldn't find swede

the fabric i bough was from this ebay seller. eBay Store - Fabricladies: Prints, Waverly, Stripes as far as ive checked they only carried the dark grey. When i got the fabric they do give custom orders so i could imagine that black wouldnt be hard to find. they could also mail you samples as well. the headliner was easy to take out but because its soo thin its hard to stretch the fabric on it the plastic parts and the rear hatch cover easy as cake. i used loctite heavy duty from joanne fabrics.

Should look good when I upholster my custom dash with micro suede; tan. Nice outcome. The result of that looks nice I'm liking it.. :thumb:

Couple question though. Is that suede easy to apply to edges or sharp curves? I meen does it wrinkle easily? Or is it like a somewhat stretchable fabric? Did you use a heavy amount of spray adhesive or just mist it?

I'll try to throw an answer out there just because he hasn't done it yet.

I think it depends on what weight the suede is in order for it to be stretchy or not. I've had trouble reupholstering my Porsche, but that is some heavy-duty thick leather they use.

As for misting, I know he didn't do that. It's best to lay the adhesive thick on both contacting surfaces (the cargo cover and the suede), let it sit for 10 min or however long they advise, then carefully apply together rolling out any wrinkles.

I went through hella amounts of 3m spray adhesive when i reupholstered my headliner. maybe close to 3 cans, I think.

That looks so good. I'm thinking about just doing the head liner, deck lid thingy and the door inserts. Thanks for the idea !

it was done with spray adhesive. not too thick but i made sure i had the nap. i wouldnt recommend spraying the fabric itself just the surface your going to apply it on plus you have to let it get a little tacky. when i first started the projecti would just spray and apply and the glue would seep through the fabric causing hard spots ont eh surface. the fabric is stretchable but only to an extent its not like a shirt so you have to learn how to basically stretch it over curves.

Hey thanks man. I think I'm gonna attempt my headliner and door panel inserts first, might also re-wrap the visors depending on how the first two comes out.

Oh, btw, do you have a lot of suede left after doing all the parts you did?

the roll i got was 4yards by about 56 inches..thats enough for the headliner all the pillars the rear hatch door panes. and im gonna attempt the visors and possibly the side of the center console.

Yeah, I did some measuring today before I put in my "best offer". I should have a lot left over after doing the headliner, panels and visors. Got it for $20 shipped. Just need to go to Joanne and buy the adhesive. I'll try to post pics in this thread when I start the job.

I had done that before in my 97 n/a, Ill post some pics of mine but the thing is when it got hot during the summer the glue started to come off on the headliner. I sprayed more on but it still comes off, I also had a lot of problems doing the visors so they came out crappy. Yours look really nice thou!

Looks great, I've also seen in a member's gallery where they had the dashboard wrapped with leather. Looked like stitching on the dash as well, coming vertically down the sides of the center stack. Can't remember the screen name.

The professionals use Contact Cement Adhesive. I believe you can buy it at any autobody paint shop. This stuff requres the use of a gravity fed paint gun though, but for referance... that's what they use.

Well, here's an update on my suede job so far. I managed to finish up the headliner today and I'll finish my sub enclosure tomorrow. Here are some pics of the finished headliner. Hey TrboANTsi thanks for all the links and answering all my questions. I'll post up pics of it installed tomorrow along with the enclosure. I also painted my Oh shit handle, sunroof switch plate, visor and visor hooks with Duplicolor Medium Grey Vinyl and Fabric paint (same thing I used in my infamous carpet thread). More pics tomorrow.

I didn't feel like staring a new thread so I'm going to bring this one back...

I also have a few questions...

I just started doing this to my car

<a href="http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f34/dylan702110988/?action=view&current=supraandsuede001.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f34/dylan702110988/supraandsuede001.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

thats what i have got done so far...but hey its a start...i didn't use any adhesive for it i just used a staple gun :)

how is the suede holding up? Is the adhesive still holding up to the heat?

those are my main to worries
