Fender Flares...

ive been wanting to do that also, but many said that the lines would not flow. theres a pic around with the 1g that looks pretty nice.

It has been done before, not in carbon fiber that I know of. They are a universal flare and most times their molded on.
Here is a picture of them on the rear of a 2g.

They are universal fender flares. All fender flares come ready to be riveted, bolted, or glued on. Its up to the purchaser to either put them on with a few pop rivets or mold them in for a smooth appearance. The eclipse body has an unusually large wheel well opening. Your choices are limited when it comes to fender flares, universal or custom.

Actually the picture posted above is just a universal fender flare that was molded on.. You can get them here http://www.autosportz.com/bodykits_miscellaneous_fender_flares_universal.htm and just about anywhere else dealing with body parts.

I dont know about you but i would worried about them flares cracking.
If i was going to do this i would custom make some out of metal.
It really is not my cup of tea. But if thats what you like go for it.

I know they are universal and I know several different places to get them. I'm just looking for a picture of them riveted on a 2g. No extra body kit parts or any of that. Just the over-fenders on a 2g.

same here i like the rivet look too that molding shit is ### and adds weight and you have to paint. i know alot of miata guys use the rivet fender flares when they autocross

I came across this pic of a 1st gen in "The Hangout" Now if only I can find one of a 2g :)

That would be mavisky's car. When he put those on he ended up cutting some out of the wheel wells.

You can read about his process here, http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/road-course-autocross/231778-flared-1g-fenders-wider-tires.html
as well as reading about fender flares, what works, and just about everything else associated with them. Might also consider rolling them.

Here is another that mainly deals with the 1g body style, but there is talk about the 2g.

I have never seen a 2g with a set of riveted on flares. The closest thing would be the picture I posted above which is a pair of riveted flares molded on the rear; just picture it with holes every 8 inches around the curve if you would like to see the rivets. Better yet, see if someone can photoshop a picture for you.

And please refer to them as fender flares, there is no such thing as over fenders.

the only way i think that they would look real good is if you are able to make them flow in. rather than that i just dont like all the rivet holes.

im srry but i think i just pucked in side my mouth!!! but if you want to find them go look up a place that makes carbon fiber parts.

Well maybe you have acid reflux disease or something... If you are not any help to this thread then go puke inside your mouth elsewhere. Like I've stated repeatedly... I know where to get them and everything, I'm just looking for pics of them installed on a 2G. KthanxBye

roadrunner2176 Thanks for that link... by the way, there IS a such thing as over fenders :thumb:

That may be, but for your application your looking for fender flares. Asking around for over fenders makes one think of that crappy chrome trim thats 3m taped onto the fender.

And remember that everyone is entitled to their opinion. Whatever you may think, someone will always support the opposition.

I think that once you see a photoshop, or someone who has actually riveted a pair onto their 2g without cutting up the wheel well you will see that the body lines do not blend well.

My fenders were never meant to blend in seamlessly in case one should get damaged during competition. I can easily unbolt the broken one and bolt a new one in it's place very simple. I didn't get the carbon fiber versions because it just wasn't worth the cost. Not like it's saving me weight.

My flares are from a Datsun 240z. The problem with not cutting the fenders is that you can't get the car to sit right without rubbing, or you can lower it enough to "look good" and you'll have to tuck the tires inside the stock wheel wells making the flares useless and looking horrible. You could probably tuck a 305 with the right offset on these things, I'm tucking a 275/40-17 right now on these 17x9" mustang offset rims. Makes them really cheap to buy wheels too. Here's some more recent pics after I got the ride height set better.

im loving the riveted look mavisky. that looks real good but i know you cut the fenders i dont think id have the guts to do that even though thats the proper way. and if i ever was to do that those are the types of flares id want. looks real good.

See that the body lines do not blend well? Can't look too much worst than the eclipse in your avatar... I will probably boot up photoshop later tonight and do a chop myself...
