i want to get a mesh grille from ebay but the guy said it'll cost an extra $17 for paint that is suppose to last for a long time on the grille. what kind of paint can i use on the grille that will last pretty long besides powdercoating? should i just run with it and fork over the $17? or should i attempt to paint it myself and hope the paint lasts? i was thinking maybe adding a coat of flat black on, then maybe several coats of clear coat for protection. or thin layer of fiberglass? i don't know.

regular spray paint or high temp paint wont flake and dont buy from eBay do this:

will that kind of paint be able to take on rain and snow while taking a beating from daily driving with random chunks of rock and gravel hitting it?

I would be suprised....

Powdercoating is stronger and even then I question its ability to handle all the crap that flies at it.

I say get it powdercoated, do it once, and do it right.

repeat jobs are never worth the time.

From the pictures in your galley, the car looks nice and clean the way it is. With a grill your car would look a little ricey in my opinion. A fmic would look beautiful. I believe your still on the stock t25 though. But anyways I say no grill. save your money and get a mbc.

You'd need a strong enough mesh that it wouldn't flex and pop off the powdercoat.

Just repaint it once or twice a year. Stove paint.

nah, the amount of "flexing" it would do should be fine as long as you coat it with the piece in layout of what you are applying it to, PC can handle flexing as long as your not grabbing the piece and then doing the "wave" with it.

PC coats most springs in automotive use for a durable and aestheticly pleasing coat and no issues for all those years.

haha thanks but the grille isn't there for looks. i just want it to keep rocks from hitting the intercooler and radiator. i spent a good majority of my afternoon taking the intercooler out, cleaning it, and straightening the fins. it is also why i want to paint it black. i figured the black will blend in with the car and make it discreet and invisible.

Interesting idea. If you get any pictures after its finished, you should post them so we can see the result. Im not sure that there is any type of paint you can use that after taking a beating of rocks and whatever else you come across on the road will not come off, so if you ask me, I would second Defiant. Paint it like once every spring and you will be fine.

i was browsing through lowe's and i came across this roll of gutter guard. it's not painted on or anything so even if rocks hit it, nothing will chip off. unfortunately the middle is too big and the guard cannot cover it all the way to the top. still thinking of a way to fix this. seeing how it's just plastic i might melt two of them together. don't mind the giant crack in the right side of the bumper.
