Pinstripe removal question

I have a hideous gold pinstripe down the side of my maroon car. I started removing it and realized that the car had a painted on factory pinstripe underneath the sticker stripe. My front fender has obviously been replaced with one that didn't come on the car because it doesn't have the painted on stripe underneath. I guess they put a sticker over all of it instead of matching the painted stripe.

So, are the factory painted on pinstripes clearcoated over or are they just on top? I want to get rid of but it is being a PIA. Any suggestion to get it off are welcome. I tried the oven cleaner method but it didn't do anything. I didn't leave it on very long though because I didn't want to take the chance of ruining my perfectly good paint.

I just need to figure this out because now I have half of a pinstripe and look like an idiot. Thanks in advance!

I think you are out of luck, the pin stripe is under the clear coat. the only way to remove it is to sand it off. Then you will have to reclear coat again. Then that is if you don't remove the base coat. I would find some other color of pin stripe tape you like and cover the painted pin stripe. You can find pin stripe tape at any auto paint distributor.3m makes most of the pin stripe tape.

And most pin stripes are above the clear from what I know

Thanks for the response guys. I will give the paint thinner a try. If it doesn't work then I guess I will just find another stripe to put back on. I just wanted to get rid of it because it is hideous, but it isn't worth stripping down a perfectly good clearcoat just to remove it. Still taking suggestions if anyone has a different idea or method short of stripping the clearcoat

Or if all else fails you can give this a try. Don't know how it works though and especially since it's from Harbor Freight it might be a POS.

A pin stripe remover works great if the pin stripe is tape , but for pin stripe paint ,it will not remove it. You have a choice, repaint it or put another pin stripe tape on it.

I used a hair dryer on mine. Just heat and peal as you go. Then get some goo gone... and viola

It is painted on and clearcoated over. I guess I will just have to find one to put over it. I was hoping to get rid of it because it is so ugly but I'm pretty much stuck with it unless I repaint my car and my paint is perfect so why even bother
